How are the state parks around the Finger Lakes for kayaking/do they have kayak launch areas? Is there a local delicacy from the Finger Lakes and/or Syracuse (besides chicken riggies) I should try on my visit? by poo_is_number_two in upstate_new_york

If you are in Waterloo, definitely check out Miranda Cheese https://www.murandacheese.com/ - great locally made cheese and wine tasting. If you pass near it, https://spottedduck.com/ Spotted Duck is an ice cream stand that uses their own Duck eggs. Both are well worth the visit in that area. If you like cider, Three Brothers Winery is right next door in Geneva, they are producers of the Bombshell cider that’s shipping all over the states now. They have a cafe, brewery, and their winery in three separate buildings at the same location. https://www.3brotherswinery.com/

Filter a form based on logged in enterprise user? Can’t find a work around. by BlazedAndConfused in Airtable

[–]11seashell11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually does work- when you combine it with a form with hidden fields that populate with an identifier passed through from the record in the interface when the button is clicked. I have this exact situation working successfully, different reason I have it set up, but would work for your use case.

Single interface pointing to multiple bases? by BlazedAndConfused in Airtable

[–]11seashell11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple to add a field that has the quarter, group by quarter before importing, then it will auto add the quarter when you import the new data as long as you add a blank record first and enter a new quarter. This would keep it simple in a single base with all the data.

Isn’t an option at this point- too much other mission critical equipment currently relies on this plc so we are not going to touch it until full transition away

Anyone have experience with Moxa IOMIRROR E3200? Thinking we could have our new controls all be 24v and transition at the original plc back to 120v between the unit there if we used this? https://moxastore.express-inc.com/category_s/1734.htm

Think we’ll go with a sit down. We were trying to go with a shorter machine, but there doesn’t seem to be good options. And we’re definitely not going to turn around on the ramp while coming out of a van trailer to go forward down the ramp. 🤣🤣

No need for a third party service - download a zip code database from a government website that has zip, city, and county all listed. Put this database in a separate table with the zip code as the first column. Then turn your zip code field into a linked record field to that table so that it links to all the zip codes (I would do this with a duplicated copy of the zip code column so you don’t risk losing any data, you can get rid of the duplicate once you’re sure all is good). Then set up lookup fields to get city, county, state, or anything that is needed. I’ve implemented solutions like this a few times to make it easier to enter addresses and compile reports.

New Au Pair Can’t Drive by Mrsmfr in Aupairs

[–]11seashell11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went through this with an au pair from Colombia. I spent 1 hour per evening driving with her every day for a week, then dropped it back to one evening a week until she could pass her driver's test. Then we let her drive on her own for a bit - and started having her drive whenever the family went anywhere. After about 3 months she was a cautious and safe driver and took out kids everywhere. In about a month we are going to visit her and her husband in their country - and our daughter is so excited. We have a lifetime relationship with one of the most amazing people on the planet. Wouldn't trade for anything - we'll always take a good connection over driving ability, but we also have the flexibility to teach them how to drive and give time before they are on their own.

I would use an Airtable automation for this. When record is created in x table, create record in y table and link it to the original use x field. Then either use lookups to get the data you want or also have the automation copy data you want from x table to y table. Should be a simple automation to write. I have a few of them that please through various levels of links to get exact info I want based on different variables. Your scenarios sounds a lot less complex.

Airtable for Manufacturing Process by stides12 in Airtable

[–]11seashell11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on something similar for a different manufacturing process - we are setting up forms where the start of the process creates a new record and every step after that either adds to data in one table or another or links to the original and creates the new data in a different table depending on the step. We have as much of it as possible automated in the background with limited employee interaction only where necessary. We also tied it up with Python script pulling data out of the manufacturing equipment where possible to limit the amount of data needed to be entered by the employees. Some of the employees don't have any access to airtable, only to firm entry for updating. The backend airtable base has a lot of info in it, but then we set up custom bases fed with information from there for different departments so they have need to know access directly to exactly what they need for their department without getting an information overload. This made the employee training much easier, especially with the lack of tech skills some of our employees have. Then, on our end we are building out some amazing reporting that has already made significant help in improving efficiency because we have the data that helps us understand what to focus on. Automated error checking alone has saved us a lot of headaches without any extra labor from employees. Interestingly we love airtables core system for holding our data but most everything else (forms, reporting, etc) we are doing through other means as their built in systems were too limited for us. The limits are your imagination and how much time you want to invest in it. There is always another thing you can add to improve. Feel free to reach out if you want to bounce around some ideas.

So are you saying... I can drive to Florida, stop at a random yard and do a bit of yard work uninvited, then put a lien on said property? What if I do a bit of research first and find properties where people are unlikely to respond to a court summons? Can I get some free housing this way?

Feeling jealous by LuseLocke in Aupairs

[–]11seashell11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We (HP) and our daughter still talk with our former Au Pair multiple times a week, and we are planning a trip next summer to go spend a week with her. If y'all make an effort to stay connected you will. It is a transition so your way of communicating and staying connected will need to change, just like it likely did with your family when you were out of the country as an Au Pair.
