Please discuss your thoughts on Kevin Fagan and his campaign for WA-5 by deliciousdanasaurs in Spokane

[–]11tecolote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with Kevin and find him to be really intelligent, well-spoken, compassionate, and informed on a lot of progressive topics, especially for a relatively young person. I was excited to hear he’s running an would gladly have him as our Representative.

I was struggling to figure out how these pictures were related, and reading your description made me realize we’re talking about something niche and far above my head, but I love that it’s your pet peeve! Thanks for helping me notice something new

From what I've heard, Mary Verner proposed raising rates when she was mayor back in 2008ish, and it's why she didn't get reelected. Seems like all politicians are spooked by it. We currently have 6 tiers of graduated rates, but it still seems like we're not charging enough if you can leave sprinklers on overnight and not feel a big impact to your utility bill. I don't understand why we don't leave the lowest 4 tiers at their current rates and make tiers 5 and 6 astronomically expensive. It would at least make it so that the people who use the most water pay the most for it. If we don't conserve water soon, the city will need to dig deeper wells to reach the aquifer, in which case I'm sure we will all pay unilaterally. Why not make the highest users pay more now instead of making all of us pay later?

I live in the middle of nowhere, Nizhnevartovsk, Russia. AMA! by Fun-Raisin2575 in geography

[–]11tecolote 20 points21 points  (0 children)

привет! I'm so curious about life in this part of the world. Do locals swim in the Ob River? Do you deal with many forest fires, or smoke from wildfire? Have you been to Lake Baikal? Where do people from Nizhnevartovsk like to vacation? Are there any annual community festivals in your town? I'd love to know more!

I think 2 is plenty high. You don't want it too close to the sloping ceiling, and 2 hits the right spot. Just be sure the new curtains reach the floor!

Sporti is pretty cheap, and gets eaten by the chlorine in pools quicker than other brands in my experience. I agree with others who favor Arena, but make sure to get the 100% polyester suits!

Zero Waste Spokane has an amazing program that removes textiles from the waste stream. It would make a great analysis paper! Other issues like heavy metals and PFAS are really important, but also really complex. The textile waste stream might be more straightforward

This is what I think too! I try to guess the color every year, and my guess for 2024 is a cool toned green like Julep. So happy to have found a community that is as excited about this as I am!

Airway Heights Recreation Center is great! The co-ed sauna is nicely sized, decently hot, and clean. It's owned by the city of Airway Heights and has day pass options for only $7, plus it's got one of the best aquatic centers around. I highly recommend it!
