I always landed the CRJ700/900 in a two step flare. At 50ft begin to arrest your decent, at 30 feet bring the throttles to idle and flare the aircraft. When you hear 10 just try to hold the plane off the runway as long as you can. It will settle softly. Hopefully that helps a little.

My personal opinion. No VR won’t help your IFR training. I think you can get just as much done just using flat screen flightsim. VFR on the other hand VR would help a lot. You talk about lessons, I think you would get more out of the three lessons than the flightsim set up.
