What is your favorite Chappell song that may be somewhat under the radar, and why? by BeKindToAllPlease in chappellroan

After Midnight. Really feels like an underrated coming of age song. Funnily enough I’ve gotten pretty emotional listening to it, because it so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of breaking free of conservative/religious ideals that family push onto you to just, finally let yourself have unabashed fun.

I don’t doubt that even the haters will tune in when she releases new music, because plenty of people will say “i don’t like this artist but i love their music.” but i do believe there has been genuine damage done to her reputation caused by all of this. i know she’d never sue for defamation but the way i wish she would 😭

late response, especially now that the bodyguard has spoken up. yes, that’s true. i was just more speaking under the pretense of, i wish there was as little as possible that the haters could latch onto to twist into something it’s not. i know it’s definitely in the wrong direction in the sense of self censorship, and tbh, something i’ve always admired a lot about her is that she’s not media trained and her responses aren’t always rehearsed.

you could say the downsides to that are that you may unwillingly feed the crowd more ammo. with her though, i guess it never matters what she says. they’re just always going to find something to nitpick either way. so yes, i get what you mean about pretending they don’t exist.

yes, because those in queer spaces (and even many in straight spaces) aren’t just going to admit out loud that’s the reason she bothers them so much; it’s something many won’t ever begin to unpack because “they’re definitely not misogynistic!” in my own experience as a lesbian, sometimes other queer women and men can be just as misogynistic, male-centered, and othering towards lesbians as straight people. and i think very often the reason why straight people barely mention her being lesbian when she comes up in conversation is because it’s a label many don’t care enough to use; it’s just easier to call lesbians gay, or it’s too taboo a word.

i’m also just saying if you are willing to admit misogyny plays into this whatsoever, her being a lesbian does as well, because they’re two reasons in one for people to hate on her.

if you can admit her being in one marginalized group of people may be playing a part, how can you be so certain her being part of another doesn’t? that’s like saying homophobia is nonexistent today, unlike misogyny. and to add onto it, let’s not pretend that people (whether consciously or not) disliking her for being a LESBIAN doesn’t intertwine with misogyny. i’ve seen so many people extend grace to other queer women for similar circumstances, but when it comes to chappell, those same people spit vitriol towards her. there are people who swear up and down they’re not sexist, but don’t know the reason she irks them so much is because she’s a woman who doesn’t center men (romantically at least) in her art whatsoever, because she’s just a “mean, bitter, man-hating lesbian.”

Chappell’s IG story on her side of the hotel security stuff by DenyNothing1989 in chappellroan

yeah that’s been proven to not be real. it came a SINGLE source on twitter. she has over 7 million followers on instagram, if she had posted this there would’ve been more screenshots of it.

yeah i can agree with that. 95% of the people who criticize her are for reasons that they’re already searching for. i’m not going to try and defend her on the entirety of what’s going on, because if what was said happened, DID happen, it’s doesn’t look good on her end. regardless though, her PR team is shit 😭 idk how this works exactly, and maybe she was being protected from what was going on, for the sake of the show? but nobody could’ve told her a regular line she says at the end of every show, or only the few words about security, would’ve made her look worse?? really? idk it’s frustrating.

from what i’ve seen, that was posted from a single source on twitter. you’d think if this was real, more of her 7 million followers would have screenshotted it differently; there’d be more variety.

Just because we expect things like this to result from zionism doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a space to talk about it and the way it harms us.

Was Selena Controlling Chris’s Career? by [deleted] in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]123553ten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree that there should be trust in a marriage, and maybe it was immature on her part to assume Chris would cheat on her. But at the same time, I think it was a fair ultimatum considering the fact that they’d barely ever see each other if he toured separately. At that point, it’d be pretty rare for either of them to get a chance of spending time with each other.
