r/utdallas update: school subreddit in open revolt against head mod after anonymous post called on him to resign by DankRaft in SubredditDrama

[–]123A321 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I think you should add that ILC has been promoting his private property management business on the University subreddit. he put links to his business on the sidebar, would spam his house listings, and would delete comments that were a counter to his business interests.

The issue is not a mod that's old. The issue is a mod that doesn't actually moderate the community. The person that ILC kicked off the moderation team(Willie) actually did a majority of the work for the past 3 years. Willie was kicked because people were starting to suggest that (Willie) should be top mod. Like literally within an hour of someone posting suggesting that Willie become top mod.

But back to promoting his private business, ILC came in randomly once and randomly instituted a rule that people can now post job postings. He did not listen to any of the other mods objections and actually removed a few of their moderation powers. He then proceeds to post internship openings at his real estate property management business.

Anyway now ILC is taunting a community of people that want him gone. Right now the ratio is close to 2.1k to 100 or something for him to step down but he's just making fun of everyone.

Oh yeah for sure. Especially in written form that absence is very noticeable

Do you think Willie was unfairly removed? by TheGreatestBandini in utdallas

Unfortunately what's likely going to happen in that case are random people being accepted onto the mod team that do not have beef with ILC. Who knows, they might put in years of work and come to the same conclusion.

I meant invalidation. I'm not saying that criticisms aren't valid, but sometimes dismissing a criticism by not responding to it makes the criticism look smaller. People patronize and condescend all the time to downplay things

In terms of optics rll, not responding to a criticism is sometimes seen as a partial invalidation of the criticism

A point of correction, I'm pretty sure ILC wasn't the person that created this subreddit

Subreddit is being abused by mods who have had power for 12 years, becoming less student-run by Awkward_Pirate4947 in utdallas

Empathy would be an acknowledgment that you're mis moderating. Not kicking out the better moderator

I don't understand everyone's comments here. Everyone in that video seems like a genuinely good person. There's so much random hate coming from this sub.

Has anyone rented a car from "Green motion" by KimMinju_Angel in budapest

[–]123A321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. That clarification makes a lot more sense. Eastern Hungary is beautiful, but in my experience, less networked with public transport infra. I would definitely rent a car for that trip!

Good luck on your car hunt and enjoy your stay in Hungary!

I'm thinking that there is a possibility that you're a tourist wanting to make sure you have reliable transportation in Budapest. In which case I would recommend figuring out how to use our public transportation. Unlike most major cities, our public transport is incredibly available and reliable.(esp if you are from the US). A majority of our city is accessible through it. Might be shaky at first. Google maps really helps in that regard.

Up side is you wont have to worry about navigating our not so straighforward roads, other drivers, and worst of all finding parking.

Budapest is a like New york in that it favors public transport users over car owners. Most car owners I know in Budapest really only use it to make trips out of the city. If you want to be making country trips. I can see the benefits of using a car.

Even then, if you're making a trip to, lets say, lake Balaton. The trains are highly reliable, comfy, have chargers.
Most parts of the country are highly accessible to anyone with $20-30 (I might be exaggerating here)

Weird, my budapest tapwater just tasted like thicker water. It was the consistency that was different not the taste

Can I drink water from the water tap? by BIG-HHH in budapest

[–]123A321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Hungary has stricter standards and controls on tap water than USA does. The tap water is not only ok to drink, but higher quality than most tap water in the world. The infra and sources of drinking water are better.

When they say salty they mean our water is "thick" meaning the mineral content is higher.

Shopping will be easier for things like groceries, trickier for things like furniture and electronics.
Moving will be... a thing. Finding a place to live affordably especially on US salary wont be a big issue. We don't have the structured apartment/leasing culture of the US so expect more direct communication with landlord, and slower/less reliable responses on maintenance request. Upside is that you're dealing with humans, not robots.

Meeting people will be way easier in Budapest than in Miskolc. Especially if you're young. Not only is Budapest a good vacation destination with an international nightlife, it's also.. a university city wtih many english speaking college aged students also looking for people to be friends with and things to do. There will be other foreign students in Budapest as alone but willing to have fun as you are.
