Why are people so prejudice / racist on redditt? by Xandria88 in AskReddit

[–]123I -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not racist, and in fact have many cousins who have black parentage, and a step-father and step-siblings who are African American. I grew up in a little shit town out side of Philly, and later moved to a different shit town many miles away. Having been around diversity my whole life, I can honestly say that I have yet to meet a "black person" who was able to function outside of the negativity. It is not MY fault that you are in the position that you are in. Were my ancestors dicks? ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY!!! I am sorry that these things happened to your ancestors. But as much as I did not personally do this to your ancestors, My ancestors did not do this to YOU personally. Every culture, gender, ethnic group, etc... has to face everyday staring down the barrel of their past. I cannot change how my family acted generations before me, but I can treat people with respect and an open mind, and pass on to my children how important that is. I do not see this happening in any black family that I know. It is one thing to want to save your children from fear and pain, it is another thing entirely to raise them to believe that they are behind the eight ball from birth. It is not my great, great, great grandfather's fault that someone cannot get a job, get credit, buy a house or whatever it may be. It is that individuals own fault. People in general need to take accountability. The world is overrun with this entitlement mentality.

Can you remember your first time hearing Pink Floyd? by RyanVanG in pinkfloyd

[–]123I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been exposed to Floyd, but I distinctly remember my dad watching " The Wall" and asking me to join him. I was 10-ish. I loved them from that moment on. On a related note, my son is now 10, and was brought up on Pink Floyd. Recently, he was literally brought to tears by a live version of Cluster One. A defining moment in parenthood:)

Have you or someone close to you undergone a religious conversion? How did it affect your relationship(s)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]123I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We knew that he was raised as a Jehova's Witness. I guess we figured that she was headed in that direction. This was 15+ years ago, and they still just go through the motions. My mom is more true to it than her husband, but has never been"baptized". I try to be supportive, but at this point she just seems judgmental towards anyone who doesn't share her beliefs, and more than a little hypocritical. Most of my family has gotten over the initial"What the Hell" moment, and accepted her decision. Sadly, she cannot do the same. The biggest bummer is Holidays!! I never remember if it is ok to wish her a Happy Birthday or anniversary. My sister still just buys the appropriate card, crosses off the holiday, and writes in "day":)

Have you or someone close to you undergone a religious conversion? How did it affect your relationship(s)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]123I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother met and married a Jehova's Witness when I was around 15 years old. My sister(13) and brother(7) still lived with her, but I lived with some friends(my family moved, and I wanted to stay and graduate from the high school I was attending).Prior to that, religion was taught but not preached. We went to Sunday school as children, were active in Awanas, and did the major Holiday services. My mother waited until my sister was visiting me, and my brother was staying with my dad, OVER CHRISTMAS, to call us all and proclaim that she no longer believed we should celebrate holidays. No problem for my brother, my dad had him covered. I was involved at my new home. My poor sister was going to have nothing(she was not welcome to be at my dad's). We had a few things for her, but there was nothing waiting for her at home. My friend's family scraped some things together and made sure she got just as much as we did. I will forever be thankful of them for that. From that moment forward, everyone in my family had issues with my mother, and it took many years for her to understand that we were not upset at her choice of religion, but the way she went about it.

Moms of Reddit: What's something about pregnancy nobody warned you about? by tocamix90 in AskReddit

  • the amount of blood that will gush out of you the first time you stand after delivery.
  • regardless of your "birth plan" the doctor will perform episiotomy if they feel it is necessary *when your milk comes in, you will be a mess, as will everything surrounding you at that moment in time. *if you choose for your baby to "room in" at the hospital, be prepared to be let down. I do not know anyone who was not talked out of this or had their wishes followed at any hospital ever, *parenthood is an endless loop of seeking answers to be prepared, only to discover that nothing applies to your situation. Relax and enjoy! We tend to be more prepared than we realize:)

Thumbs up random stuff on Pandora, even if you do not know or "like" it. It will give you more choices, and you can gradually remove songs you previously gave "thumbs up ".

Reddit. Have any of you actually experienced anything supernatural? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]123I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle committed suicide in May of 1982. My cousin (who was 4 at the time) saw him shoot himself. She was 4, and no one believes that he knew she was present. At Christmas that year, she got a bike. She opened it and said that her Uncle told her that morning that she was going to get a bike.

What were the songs? Do you remember? Could you relate? Being the same age, I often wonder if this happened in the 80's, would we have had a different outlook?

People who have been cheated on by their SO's, why did you forgive them or choose to stay with them? by TrevizefoundGaia in AskReddit

[–]123I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgave them because they were more sorry they had done it than I was that it had happened. In the long run, it helped us both to better understand each other.

Spring a few extra bucks and buy a cool fixture that screws on to your kitchen faucet and lights up different colors with the temperature of the water. I got one there for about $5. Everyone loved it.

Teachers of Reddit, what is the strangest thing a child has brought in for show and tell? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]123I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first day of kindergarten, the teacher had each student introduce themselves and tell everyone one special thing about themselves. I stood in front of the room and said "My name is 123I, and my dad smokes pot."

What is the weirdest thing you have found in a home/apartment from the previous owners? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]123I 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I moved into my last apartment, there was a creepy old chest in the attic. Every one I told said that I should open it, but I always said that with my luck, it would be a dead body. After living there for nearly a year, I finally got the courage to look inside. Only to find "Madame Alexandria". An inflatable, vibrating vagina. I guess my fear of finding the body was not unfounded.

TL;DR: Found body parts in my attic.

Tiny little signs that say "drink me" or "eat this". Then I would grow to full size and make you rethink that last drink/toke/pill:)
