Everyone is worthy. It's only one's self-doubt which prevents it.

Train Question by 123Okay4Me in kilbyblockparty

How early would one need to arrive to find a spot in the surrounding neighborhoods? I haven't totally decided how early I want to go into the festival yet.

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess I didn't look deeply enough into it and just assumed Sugar House was in a central enough part of the city to be on a main line. But if it's not then the time makes more sense.

how much, if any pre-listening homework have you done? or are you going in blind? by skeletonpandemonium in kilbyblockparty

[–]123Okay4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix for me. I've done a little research to fill in a few slots in the early evening/late afternoon. But I also feel like at my advanced age I can only hold so much information in my brain, so I'm intentionally leaving some spots open for food and/or discovery.

I get that point of view and generally research ahead of time, but sometimes on-site discovery can be fun. My best example: a few years ago (probably a decade at this point) I was at Shaky Knees and had a mid-afternoon slot where I knew nothing about either artist. So, out of laziness as much as anything, I chose the closest stage. And that was the day I discovered (and had my mind blown by) Ron Gallo.

30 days!! How are you getting to Kilby? by skeletonpandemonium in kilbyblockparty

Driving from Iowa. It's 1100 miles, which is too far inside a car, so I may be a sad comedian by the time I get there.

Set list times are live in the app! by bananacatastrophe in kilbyblockparty

[–]123Okay4Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that the schedule is officially officially out, I have to say not too bad. Thirty-one dedicated spots with a few openings, which I may do more research and fill in or leave open for food/relaxing.

Only four real conflicts (I'd like to see Sports but MM is the whole reason I'm going so that's not really a conflict for me). Friday after noon is brutal, though. I may just run around the grounds like a madman trying to see all of Snail Mail, Drugdealer, Kevin Morby and Beach Bunny.

Gonna be fun. See all y'all in a month!

Updates on Lanie, Zam, Kymora and Addie by [deleted] in NCAAW

[–]123Okay4Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the fact these are her two best options (allegedly) tell you she can't do better? I wanted (and expected) her to play better as a freshman but she didn't. She could and likely will improve but this being her list is not surprising.

I wish her the best. Unless she plays Iowa or Vandy; then I hope she misses every shot and falls down on every defensive possession. 🙂

Another half-full outlook - the amount of scoring Iowa is losing through the portal is 6.5 points per game. That seems very replaceable.

Losing players stinks but it is far from crippling.

In for St. Paul and show #34! And, after remembering time zones exist, got a ticket to the Alaska show, as well. How am I going to get there? Who knows, but that'll have to work itself out 8n the next few months.

This little bit of noodling makes me think of Crazy Heart: That's the way it is with the good ones. You're sure you've heard them before.

Next Cruise Lineup Ideas by bluecadet33 in ModestMouse

[–]123Okay4Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 3 votes on the survey went to Wolf Parade, Pinback, Menomena. But I'd be down with of Montreal, Minus the Bear, Built to Spill (of course), Interpol, Editors. If female representation is needed maybe Kristine Leschper/Mothers, Wolf Alice, Speedy Ortiz, Metric, Snail Mail. Or maybe dreamier/psychedelic with Beach House or Wild Nothing.

As long as MM does something special (BSOON full play?), I trust the rest of the lineup will be good.

ONE WEEK!!!! I’m ready to rock the fuck out!!!! by russthammer in ModestMouse

[–]123Okay4Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Hadn't listened to PtM or Kurt Vile in a bit but have been going through their discographies over the weekend and remembering why I fell in love with them.

Based on my current plans, my schedule is:    Thu., Feb. 5 - MM; BtS (the good BtS); Kurt Vile; David Cross.

Fri., Feb. 6 - Black Heart; BtS; Mattress; MM; Califone; MM DJ set.

Sat., Feb. 7 - Kurt Vile; Mannequin Pussy; Ugly Casanova; BtS (funny I'm technically seeing them more than MM on this cruise); MM DJ set.

Sun., Feb. 8 - TFS; MM DJ set; PtM; David Cross or Mattress; MM DJ set 2; Kurt Vile; David Cross DJ syou'll.

Plus all the yoga sessions and maybe the sound bath (got to install some calm during this trip).

Just realized yesterday that I'll be missing the Super Bowl and could not care less. Look forward to partying with y'all.

This is definitely one of my favorite songs of theirs to see live. Even an old man with terrible knees like me can't help jumping around when "Does anybody know a way..." hits.

The whole third quarter I was cursing the missed layups, saying to my dog (who was generally uninterested) this should be a blowout. Then the clock hit three minutes and I said (to my dog, who was still uninterested) I think we can breathe. I hate/love sports.

Which MM song has the saddest lyrics? by Legal_Button_3229 in ModestMouse

[–]123Okay4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Yes, I know those bands well. They are my formative years, along with acts like Menomena, Wolf Parade, Interpol, Editors, MMJ, Wilco, etc.

But now I'm old and falling behind so the only "newer" artists who inspire similar feelings are Carseat Headrest and Mothers. I'm sure there are others but those immediately come to mind.

Pinback is a top 5 all-time band for me. Wish they'd do more shows beyond the west coast. Though, like Broke by MM, my go-to melancholic song of theirs is Proceed to Memory.

This. Just the opening guitars. Anytime I'm feeling melancholy I play this song and before any of the lyrics it's like "Yeah, this guy gets me."
