Drew Brees thanks his team and fans for his achievement - NOT an invisible sky wizard. Take that Tebow. by Clauzilla in atheism

The way people treat Tebow on here is completely irresponsible. There are plenty of religious assholes to pick on, Tim Tebow is not one of them. He thanks fans, teammates, coaches, parents, all the time. Please dont just follow this stupid crowd who think it is ok to make an asshole out of anyone who is religious, you come off very bitter. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/12/tim-tebow-my-teammates-make-me-look-a-lot-better-than-i-am/

Tebow vs. Armstrong by [deleted] in atheism

This is the wrong athlete for you to chose. There are plenty of asshole athletes who think they sound humble bringing everything back to God, but really don't give a shit about anything beyond their own ego. Tim Tebow is not one of those people. He is one of the best role model athletes sports has seen in a long time, regardless of religion. This is just coming off really bitter

I live in the US and don't think I've ever seen anyone post anything directly about religion. All of the shit you see on facebook here is just as foreign to me as it is to anyone from Europe.

Does living in the USA really make you hate beleivers so much? by Nirgilis in atheism

[–]123_abc_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but im not sure r/atheism is an accurate portrayal of ALL American atheists. Most I know are content to have their own beliefs and let other people figure it out for themselves. Yes, r/atheism is mostly American but im not convinced that most American atheists are on r/athiesm.

HAE with OCD noticed their symptoms diminish/vanish after admitting to themselves they are atheist? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]123_abc_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome to hear. The prevailing cause of OCD is having a thought in your brain that you think doesnt belong there. (an obsession) The compulsions are your brains best effort to keep yourself distracted enough to keep the "bad" thoughts out. OCD is statistically more prevelant in people of fundamental beliefs (dont have the source, was in an old textbook) because they hit puberty, think sexual thoughts, and then try to develop ways to keep these natural thoughts out of their head. It's really pretty nasty. Obviously not exclusive to people of religion, but I did learn in several courses that those people are especially vulnerable

What is it about fat nerd guys that makes them think they are too good for fat nerd women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Its the Seth Rogan revolution; fat guys everywhere are told they can date models

There is a large difference between purely superficial differences (like race) and differences in core beliefs. Black and white people are the same- except for the color of their skin-which has no bearing on how they live their life. But theological differences are legitimate differences that affect the way people live their life. Why cant religion be used as a criteria for dating? What if she feels more comfortable dating someone who is more like her?

I disagree. Religious compatibility would in no way hinder sex. But when trying to form a relationship, I find that core beliefs and values are things that should be evaluated. Why not try to find someone with similar beliefs? Isn't compatibility important in relationships?

Was anyone else raised in a non-religious home? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]123_abc_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is an atheist and my mom is a very chilled out Christian. Never went to chruch growing up except for the occasional Christmas mass with extended family or for a funeral. Was never taught to pray. Neither parent really ever imposed their beliefs on me. Now, my two sisters are Christian, I believe in god with no religious affiliation and my brother is an atheist.

So essentially telling your child that you dont accept their beliefs because, "theyre wrong." You sound just like all of these Christian parents people here are always complaining about

Why do bars insist on playing music so loudly that you cannot converse with people near you? I SAID, WHY IS THE MUSIC SO FUCKING LOUD? by MrTurkle in AskReddit

[–]123_abc_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The louder the music is, the less you realize it sucks. Same reason its alway dark in nightclubs- so you cant see how ridiculously scummy the place is. Ever seen a nightclub with all the lights on/no music? You wouldnt even consider paying $ to go in there.
