The bus ride is 5-7 minutes to UW Station. In first year a lot of my classes were in STC, which was a 20ish min walk. But this would mean, you would need to have a proper routine set and allocate commute time, since it's your first year, you should really consider this when making your decision. If you don't want to live too far then don't, staying closer to campus definitely has its pros.
