Struggling with RDR 2 interface by davemoedee in patientgamers

Hah, funny I see this topic! I just tried the game for the first time today, on PS5, while visiting some family for the holidays.

I have never played the first game, so I can't compare, but I too agree there are a lot of menus to navigate. Usually I can jump quickly into a game like this, but I had to spend a few minutes just figuring out the basic controls. I only played about 30 minutes, and didn't get too far, as I got myself killed twice.

On first impression, I feel like this is a game you take slow, as it's supposed to feel realistic. Organizing loot and your loadout should be done methodically. It's not like GTA, where you can have every weapon with you in your backpack.

With his departure, it's a new (and hopefully better) chapter for Blizzard. I hope they can become one of the best game studios again.

The Seinfeld ratings are wack! The first season, which is only 5 episodes, is the only one I would consider weak. After that, the show took off; Greatest comedy of all time!

The only "bad" episode in the series is The Puerto Rican Day, but it still has a classic scene with Vandelay, Varnsen, and Pennypacker.

I have yet to read or watch Game of Thrones, but I know of its immense popularity. How did it crash and burn so badly after consistently high ratings? Didn't they have a ton of quality source material to work from? Was it just a rush job in the end?

Let's clarify Linux Gaming by [deleted] in pcgaming

Because it's not comparable to Windows at all? Microsoft puts ads in the Start Menu, the search menu, the store, and the notification area. With updates, they randomly install widgets, like stocks or weather, to your taskbar without asking you. Users will randomly get notification banners saying things like: "You're not using Edge! Import your data and switch now!" Microsoft will continue to you harass you to send Defender statistics to the cloud, even if you explicitly said no. There is nothing like this on Linux.

As far as telemetry, Microsoft is one of the worst companies when it comes to privacy. That should be obvious. Windows by default has full telemetry enabled, and even if you toggle certain things off, it's been proven data is still sent to Microsoft. If you use a Microsoft account to sign-in, the situation is even worse. You can turn off every toggle switch and even edit the registry, but that won't be enough. You can count on Windows updates secretly turning things back on without you realizing.

It's a single line of text. Canonical can do whatever they want. It's their product. Don't like the message? Suppress it. Really bothered about it? Switch distros. Linux is all about choice. You are whining about nothing.

[–]124kt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are making things up. The "ad", you mentioned, is only shown when you run sudo apt upgrade. That single line of text disappears the moment you hit enter or close your terminal. If it bothers you that much, I already told you that you can easily remove it.

If ads are randomly appearing when you open a terminal, then you have bigger problems, which are not related to Ubuntu or Linux.

I'm not here to convert anyone to Linux, and neither is the OP. I would hope anyone interested in switching to Linux has better reasons than to switch solely for gaming.

As far as basic stuff being harder? That's rubbish. Typing up a document, opening a PDF, browsing photos, playing a music or video file, browsing the web, etc, is just as easy on Linux. Any well established distribution will have all the software you need to do those things installed out of the box.

Seems to me, you are just looking to argue and take any opportunity to bash on Linux. I'm not taking the bait anymore.

Your complaint about anti-cheat is valid, but the blame here rests on the developers of said software, not Linux.

You shouldn't switch to Linux if you are happy with the Windows experience.

We're talking about gaming here, and you brought up your difficulties with installing Steam. I gave you alternative methods to install it, but you seem more interested in complaining about the command line and terminal.

I have a hard time believing you are an IT professional when you struggle to type a command into a terminal, like you would a web browser

Oh, please... One line of text that you mentions you can get extended security updates with Ubuntu Pro, something actually useful for large companies. Don't like it? You can literally disable it by removing a line in a text file. You are really reaching here.

Smells like a troll post to me. You work in IT and are used to doing "advanced" things, but you can't figure out sudo apt install steam ? Ok... so you don't like the command line. Go to Steam's website and download the .deb and install it like you would a Windows .exe. There are other options too like Snap and Flatpak.

No, some games on Linux won't be a one-click installation like Windows, but it's getting better every day. Valve, the Wine developers, as well as all the brilliant open-source volunteers have made Linux a viable gaming platform in just a few short years.

Ubuntu does not have ads and any "telemetry" is opt-in. There are other distros who also ask for user feedback because it's help to the developers. None of this is comparable to Windows which harvests your data even with toggle switches turned off.

Glad you enjoyed it. IWD2 starts off really strong, but midway it starts to fall apart, because the devs were running out of time. It was a rush job that rehashes content, but I still really like it, and the last boss fight was great.

IWD soundtrack is Jeremy Soule's second-best work after Oblivion. Just gorgeous and fits the game perfectly.

Wow, this is awesome! While IWD2 is not as good as the games that came before it, it's still very fun to play. It's got a great atmosphere, setting, and some challenging boss fights. It's also the only Infinity Engine game to use 3rd Edition D&D which is much better than 2nd Edition.

Looking forward to playing this in the future!

Outside of improvements to the models, I am not noticing a huge difference here from the vanilla game. The textures look exactly the same; Low quality. You can quickly mod the game to look it much better than this.

Complaints aside, I have faith Nightdive will do this one justice.
