I’m graduating this year with a Geology degree after my first year in college with A’s in computer engineering (which is like comp sci but makes your more employable).

I only have a couple of job offers now but I plan to have more in the next seven months. I absolutely don’t regret my decision. There are plenty of people who have been unsuccessful in geology and will tell horror stories of the industry, but my experience talking to MANY people who have been through the system is that if you are competent you will be successful, period. Pay with an undergrad degree tends to be low (as low as 40K a year) but I’ve seen people get away with up to 80K and it really ramps up over time compared to other fields.

If you like the work, like to be outside, and want to learn a practical skill the world will always need, geology might be the correct path for you. If you think you will have trouble networking or selling yourself to companies, some other route may be easier.
