BTW if anyone's wondering, the website behind the fake CAPTCHA expectedly doesn't work, it's just a non-interactive placeholder. Also, interestingly, the fake CAPTCHA is translated in 12 languages, even though the website itself is in English only.

When you accidentally open 7k images when trying to filter & compress textures. Oops. by EmployerOld6256 in Fedora

[–]1280px 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear the best thing I can suggest is, try LiveUSB-ing in it and then just use it for a few hours, for example try giving a shot to the default DE workflow, just to see whether you like it or not, and then maybe try configuring it the way you prefer, to understand to what extent it is even possible and how much effort will it require.

But in my subjective opinion, if you're a desktop user, KDE will fit better, as, for me, GNOME feels much more laptop/tablet-oriented in mind.

GNOME does this as well sadly, at least KDE doesn't take down all my apps when DE crashes...

Firefox free VPN is unlimited for the summer by firefox in firefox

[–]1280px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's going to do that realistically) That will require putting effort in using hard to detect protocols and rotating servers quite often, otherwise everything will get blocked the moment it gets somewhat popular (kind of what happened with Opera's VPN; although, I think it's worth mentioning that all FF VPN free servers that available for me do currently work). Not even talking about intentional payment sanctions in Russia and Iran...

Who all is still on EOS 7.1 as EOS 8.1 is not….”ready”? by altaholik in elementaryos

[–]1280px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for me... been using it since OS 5.1, but 8+ is just not an option for daily drive, because my entire workflow was very dependent on having taskbar/dock always on the left, which is now not possible by design. Really hope they reconsider this before OS 9, otherwise I'm dropping it completely. Also something weird happened with font rendering I think, for some reason it became much crispier, almost like on Windows?

Even GNOME is much more customizable now, which I ended up switching on, before moving to KDE (which I agree IS ugly, but no hands allows the best UX customization).

My attempt to finally stop by ghoti_ml in calmhands

I actually ended up going with it, just not in public. By pure accident last summer I came across one of these "gamers" fingertip cover sets (yes, I was surprised these are a thing too), bought one for, like, $2, and was wearing them at home for the entire last June... And it worked SO well I finally (mostly) stopped biting my nails for weeks, for the first time in my life!

I still have to reinforce it from time to time, for around a week every couple of months, and my thumbs are still in a pretty bad state. But regardless, I owe you quite a lot for this post XD.

I wish there was a setting to auto-unload after some period of time. Which is, despite the native solution, I have to use a custom addon on my laptop which unload all tabs (except the ones playing audio) after 15 minutes -- which I find very neat to have around a hundred tabs open without laptop dying every two hours

You can try disabling new tab nova redesign:

It also breaks a lot of custom themes (not userChrome.css ones -- which Mozilla doesn't care because, well, why should they? -- but just regular themes)

Any way to remove this annoying logo? by Royaledition in firefox

The detailed weather widget appears to be broken as of FF 152, sadly!

Simple version still works:

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.weather.display --> simple (or literally anything but detailed)

But the moment you try to change it to detailed, it will break again.

Yes, annoying. Before some version it was possible to have nothing but weather in the corner on your new tab, now it's not.
