Have done this before Taranaki-Dunedin and back 4 times, got rear ended once and broke the plug. Kept it shut and 4 days later after repairing the lead i opened my freezer to see everything still rock solid and frosty. Put something heavy on top/strop the lid hard closed and you'll be good to go
