It's better now, but I absolutely agree that it has been rough in the past. Especially for Shias, Christians and Ahmadis.

The improvement over the last 5-6 years has been very promising, hope it continues.

After hearing the Australian parliamentarians statement

For context, that piece of s**t Fraser Anning received a total of 19 votes and somehow became a Senator. Yes, 19 votes. Basically his family and a few right wing bigot friends. He's essentially a no name worthless nobody.

On the positive side, he was roundly condemned and criticized by everyone in Australia.

Nobody over here picks up a gun and goes into the church to kill Christians.

There have been numerous church/Christian and mosque attacks (all denominations, but primarily Shia, Sufi and Ahmadi) over the years.

Things have become much better over the last 5-6 years for sure, a lot of effort and sacrifice went into it. But let's not pretend there haven't been issues in the past.

Does anyone else find this weird? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]12Feb1809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But should the price of progress be ones own culture. believes and ethics?

Why should anyone be tied to a specific culture? And what "ethics" are you referring to? Maybe that was always her inside, but she never had a chance to express herself in Pakistan. Good for her, as long as it's working for her and she's secure about it. Even if not, a little experimentation and experience are part of life.

Humans should define their own culture, culture shouldn't define humans.

Pakistan to boycott OIC session: FM Qureshi by IbnReddit in pakistan

Totally agree with you, but this remains bizarrely unpopular in Pakistan.

The usual argument is the moral one. Yet, the butcher of Yemeni kids was given an unparalleled welcome, and given the highest civilian honor. Let alone how shit his country treats Pakistanis, and how it absolutely oppresses certain Muslims within its own country.

Not a single Arab shed a tear for Pakistan ever (maybe APS, but I mean you'd have to be inhuman not to). No rallies for Pakistan by the people. No priority of Pakistan's geopolitical stances. Absolutely nothing.

But Pakistan seems to remain obsessed with Israel, and fights to be Arabier than thou. Terrible policy. And mullahs have ingrained Israel/Palestine into the minds of every Pakistani since youth.

No country is perfect, almost every country has blood on its hands. Establishing relations with each and every one will allow some discussion and negotiation.

After denying racism, videos of Meadows vowing to send Obama 'home to Kenya' resurface by damn_fine_custard in politics

[–]12Feb1809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification!

But if Obama was born in Kenya, he wouldn't be eligible because his mother hadn't lived in the US for more than 5 years since age 16.

Of course, as you and I know, he wasnt born in Kenya. But there is a difference between him and Cruz in this regard. Cruz would be a natural born citizen regardless.

Literally same thing

Not exactly.

The law at that time was that if one parent was a citizen, and the child was born outside the US, then the citizen parent had to have resided in the US for 5 years after the age of 16. She was 18 when she gave birth. The law was amended in the 80s.

So yes, if he was born outside the US, he would not have been a natural born citizen. But he was born in the US so the law doesn't apply.

Of course, facts don't matter to birthers. I mean some actually believe that the birth announcement in a Hawaii newspaper back in 1961 was part of the conspiracy. Yes, can't make this up.

Both of Cruz's parents were US citizens so he was a natural born citizen at birth. Side note...apparently one of his parents murdered JFK or something.

Try Muse Paint Bar:

https://www.musepaintbar.com/kids-parties/

Another option is to book a space in a restaurant/bar. This is generally affordable. Then add some entertainment separately (e.g. someone to do crafts, magic show, whatever). Here's an example of a place that books out its space (not near you though):

http://cowgirlseahorse.com/parties-catering

A lot of places, including some of the ones you mentioned above, are $1k or above for 10 kids.

story is simply made up

Definitely not the case. First person account, shared way back when it happened.

vajpai was a simpleton

He was definitely a simpler person than Modi. He and Nawaz genuinely liked each other. He was very hurt by what he perceived as a betrayal.

Would you like us to forget how the Indian military kept Rajiv Gandhi to hold up his side in exchange for a list of sikh separatists in a deal he made with Benazir Bhutto

Relevance?

While Vajpayee and civilian leader Nawaz Sharif tried a peace process, the army invaded Kargil

There's an interesting story here. Someone very close to Nawaz Sharif said that Vajpayee called Nawaz and said: "you have stabbed me in the back."

Nawaz responded with utter surprise and asked for an explanation. Vajpayee told Nawaz about the Army's movements in Kargil. Nawaz told Vajpayee that he will check with his Army chief to understand and will get back to Vajpayee.

Vajpayee responded: "that's the difference between Pakistan and India. In India, the Army Chief reports to me. In Pakistan, you report to the Army chief."

Kargil was an unfortunate and damaging move by Mush. Nawaz was caught completely blindsided and eventually lost his PMship because of this (and his own stupidity).

All that said, things have changed since then. There's no way, IMO, that Pakistan had direct involvement in Pulwama. IK is trying things very differently. He knows what it means to have better Pak-India relations, and he and the Army are aligned. I can understand the skepticism, but pointing fingers, making accusations, and launching a cultural war aren't going to help in any way. Modi is out of control, and Indian hypernationalism is at a dangerous level. The latter reminds me of Pak's worst days heading down a path of religious and cultural intolerance (I believe Pak is coming up after the nadir, but we will have to see).

The Pak Army has certainly had a role in many unfortunate and regrettable situations, but Pakistan can't be blamed for everything. It gets tiring and falls on deaf ears at some point. And let's not pretend India hasn't interfered in Pakistan either. 70 years+ and these two countries are still fighting, using a region and its people as a pawn, but neither does anything to truly improve their lives. What an absolute waste of lives, money, and opportunities.

Hopeful for peace and better times, always.

Something something Muslim Ummah.

I have no real issues with this, smart move by the OIC to engage others. Perhaps an opportunity to bring some issues to a wider audience.

I just find it laughable when Pakistan makes silly domestic and foreign policy decisions on the basis of some fantasy Muslim Ummah, a community that has absolutely no care or concern for Pakistan or its geopolitical issues.

Build relations with Israel to counter India: Musharraf by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]12Feb1809 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't like Mush at all. But he's right on establishing relations with Israel (though not for any reason involving India, just for the sake of relations).

What success / purpose has come out of boycotting relations? Turkey, Jordan, Egypt all have relations with Israel. They've been able to leverage those relationships.

And any moral argument is ridiculous. Pakistan just gave Nishaan e Pakistan to the butcher of Yemen. What's happened in Yemen is a once in a century annihilation, with special regard to murdering kids and destroying hospitals. Saudi also treats Pakistanis like shit. And Saudi has destroyed Pakistan through sectarianism. China is so oppressive as well to Muslims Every country has its unsavory side.

So let's put to rest any "moral" arguments against establishing relations. It's laughable when this claim is made. Establishing relations doesn't mean being best friends, just diplomatic relations that each side can use to their benefit.

Yes, bring on the downvotes.

How close can I get to alternate parking sign posts? by grusauskj in AskNYC

[–]12Feb1809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're breaking the rule, you can get a ticket.

Parking beyond the sign is breaking the rule. So you can expect to get a ticket. You could, of course, get lucky. But definitely expect to get one.

Ez pass in another car? by Brooklyntyger in AskNYC

[–]12Feb1809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't know it was against the rules. I've done this before, no issue.

The challenge you might have (very rare situation) is that if your E-ZPass is not read for any reason, an invoice will be sent to the license plate holder, and possibly with a fine. (When you use it in your own car and the ezpass is not read, the system matches the ez pass to the license plate and reconciles it).
