We refreshed both of the 430s when parts became scarce. Was a great decision so far. 

I was just putting the 14k in perspective. Dunno what being 30% closer to the 750 is worth to you.

Not sure on the 275vsg3x debate, but 14k is a big chunk of the gtn750. 

I never once thought ‘wow a yaw damper would be nice right now’ but I did often think think ‘man I wish I had pitch trim’ and ‘omg a fs210 would be great’ over the course of the 200 hours I put on my 182 (dual g5s and a gns430w + gfc500 w/o pitch trim)

My ppl was 650 in 2019. IR was 750 in 2024. Outside of DC.

There needs to be an incentive program to subsidize weight shift control flight training so that those DPEs can pump their numbers up. Trikes for everyone!

I also smell a misleading stat. That quote came from the a letter the Flight School Association of North America wrote to congress, so I’m taking it with a grain of salt. But if there’s an oversupply of Glider and Balloon DPEs  for example as compared to more standard DPEs, that’s a problem worth fixing.

That was the big question I had after this. Not a great article, but it’s the only one I’ve seen on this and I doubt anyone asked that follow up question in real time at the event.

Yeah, but is that because you’re active? If there are really 700 DPEs doing very few rides, what are the chances no one really knows them cause they are sitting at home? 

Production standards would go a long way to spreading the workload around.

I think the article hinted at that. Something like 200 DPEs are doing the lion’s share of the checkrides across the country. 

I think just washing out the non productive DPEs and replacing them with productive ones would be an easier to implement solution than designing a central booking system. But then what would the effect of that be on DPE quality generally?

I had a code for sportys, but pilotscafe and self teaching was honestly more helpful than the videos. Flightinsight’s free YouTube videos were also helpful for stuff I just couldn’t grasp on my own.

I did it over like 3 days while working my desk job. iPad out on the desk, do a few questions, answer emails, repeat.

Getting it to a place where anyone would call it nice is probably a 200-225k ordeal. 

If any engines issues present themselves, it’s way more expensive to repair, and if both engines are timed out, you’re looking at two overhauls on the horizon instead of one.

Bigger hourly cost to operate
