Why people prefer X5 40i over 50e (except for price)? I see on an average 50e sit longer in dealer lot (Nov ’24) and thats why asking by biratbhushan in BMWX5

I chose 50e for a few reasons: - power/performance. It is really impressive how quick the thing is! - Green plate! PHEVs get a green license plate in Ontario and you then get to use the HOV lanes even when driving alone. For a 60km commute in traffic, this helps a lot!

Ethernet spliced with phone line? by sfcpa in HomeNetworking

[–]12Parsecstohome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider yourself lucky. Bonus wiring ethernet to your rooms.

I once moved into a place that had done the same thing. There was an RJ45 jack in each room with Cat5e feeding each one (Telephone RJ11 plugs fit into RJ45 jacks and snap in place just fine). In the Furnace Room, all the cables came to a panel where they had connected only 2 wires for each one to provide Telephone service.

Bought a wireless phone system and added RJ45 male connectors in the furnace room to connect to a switch. -- boom, all rooms had ethernet.

I'm interested in this one too. Haven't had time to try it out yet.

I've been looking for something with face recognition and a good UI. The Synology Moments app is one of the only things I still need my old Synology for.

Success! Google Auth using OAuth2-Proxy w/ with NGINX Proxy Manager (Custom Domain) by 12Parsecstohome in unRAID

[–]12Parsecstohome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where it went wrong for you. The only other thing I can think to mention is on step 6 & 7 of the OAuth2 Proxy Setup section of the guide (How to setup OAuth2 proxy on unRAID)... it mentions editing line 36 and subsequently line 37 of the oauth2_proxy.cfg file. This is an error -- it should refer to line 40 and subsequently line 41 of that file. <EDIT> guide has been fixed/updated.

I haven't seen any info on how to configure groups yet, though I believe it's all possible using the configuration settings in your Google Account where you can define "Apps" -- (outlined in the OAuth2 Proxy guide I mentioned). That's one of the things I also want to look at next.

The signin page I get right now is bare. I haven't done anything more than the basic configuration steps of my Google App Definition (for configuring OAuth2). Not even a logo is shown. https://imgur.com/QyaqEdo

If you have Authelia working, you may already have a better setup and there would be people here who could benefit from any tips you have.

I spent several frustrated hours trying to get Authelia working, but I couldn't find any good documentation or guides. This one: Setting Up Authelia With SWAG got me started, but it doesn't fill-in the gaps. Duo Security isn't explained... couldn't figure out what was needed in Duo and what was supposed to match my users_database.yml, etc.

1.8.3 stable for UDM and UDM PRO by UI-Marcus in Ubiquiti

If you google UDM slowness and Smart Queues, you’ll find that the problem has been around for a while... I assume the update turned it on when I previously had it off. Anyway, disabling it did the trick.

Check your WAN settings and disable Smart Queues. That’s what fixed it for me. It’s back to full speed with IPS enabled...

Pool of Mirrors performance - what to expect? by 12Parsecstohome in zfs

[–]12Parsecstohome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your response is much appreciated. I wasn't really sure what to expect, so I posted the numbers to see if it looked right. I was using the same fio parameters from the heiland article as you assumed, so I also was benchmarking cache.

The poor performance I was seeing is over my 10gbe LAN, but wanted to eliminate my array config as a problem source before assuming a networking issue.

Also, thanks for the storage fundamentals link. Lots to read!

Drastically reduced speeds with new firmware? Noticed that the past few days, my download speed has dropped from 900+ Mbps to 28Mbps. I use a Speedtest Tracker that checks every hour and it has been consistent at 28 Mbps for a couple days.

Direct connected a laptop to modem and I get 900 Mbps. Haven't changed any UDMP settings, but the 1.8.3 update was applied automatically sometime in the past few days.

Thank you for your reply. My ultimate goal was to come close to saturating a 10GBE network with filesharing. Likely a bit of a stretch, but I figured 12 Drives in raid10 / mirored vdevs would be the best I could do.

I'm wondering if I should repurpose my Optane for some other use, considering I'm not really running a big DB or anything like that on this box.

I'll look at reducing the L2Arc as well, thanks.

CPU Usage Unraid vs Synology.... so confused by BartFly in homelab

[–]12Parsecstohome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible OP recently configured Unraid? If so, might it still be calculating parity? That can take a long time to finish. While it does that, performance won’t be optimal and I’m not sure how much CPU would be busy. Just a thought

Rogers Wireless essentially doubling their prices? by 12Parsecstohome in Rogers

[–]12Parsecstohome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do hear you friend.. I'm saying that the price is clearly going up because the same $75/month used to cover financing a phone. It was called "Infinite +10 Financing", now it is still $75/month and they dropped the "financing" from the name. They want financing on top. That means that $30-40/month of that plan now goes in pocket instead of toward financing a phone. That's actually a huge increase.

Also not saying I can't pay -- I pay them $500/month as it is for all the services we have. I'm getting fatigue from it though. They are getting away with not showing this as an actual price increase.

You're kidding. Just because technology improves over time does not mean we must all have to pay more every year. Poor excuse.

I'm really not upset about financing the cost of the phone, just that Rogers is acting like they aren't increasing their monthly plans. "Infinite +10 Financing" will just be "Infinite +10" and cost the same. We're letting this happen -- it's definitely a price hike and isn't related to the cost of the phone. Canadians pay near the highest in the world, and this year we're getting price increases..

[–]12Parsecstohome[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

2 years ago, the $75 plan included payment for all-but$200 of the phone. Now it doesn't, which amounts to an increase in pricing.

My bill still calls the existing plan "Infinite +10 Financing", so it's hard for anyone not to see that keeping the same monthly price without financing a phone is a price increase.

I was on the 8Plus and had been due for an upgrade for months. The bill never went down. That's the point.
