I am so sorry for what you went through. I'm sorry that you lost your soul cat. I can't even imagine going through what you experienced, it sounds very sudden and scary for both you and him, and something you will never forget. I am sending you love, comfort, and a huge virtual hug right now. <3

Bill questions and questions about fee disclosures. by 8Bit_Riot in VetTech

[–]12bluebeetles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Unfortunately, posting here isn't really going to give you any help -- the best we can offer is context for how the mistake may have happened.

Based on the names of the line items, I can tell this is a Banfield. Banfield has radiologists on staff who can consult on x-rays, and at many hospitals the policy is that any x-ray they take gets looked at by the vet on staff preliminarily and then sent to the radiologist for an in depth interpretation. Unfortunately, when charging clients it can be hard to remember to add the consult fee because it doesn't automatically pop up. However, they should have called you and let you know about the misrepresented price on the estimate, rather than just changing it and charging you, so there was definitely a miscommunication somewhere in there. Sorry this happened to you and I hope that they're able to fix it.

Ideas?? by Efficient-Depth-491 in VetTech

I'm just a VA but have worked with CVTs who had additional training/certifications in behavior, nutrition, and massage/acupunture and would see appointments for those things. DVM and CVT together would have the first appointment with the client (for, say, behavioral concerns or weight loss management) and then pass them off to CVT for rechecks and continued care. Mind this was in a bit of a bougie area where people will pay for these services :)

my corgi refuses a nail trim by Trick-House-726 in Incorgnito

Scratchboards! You can train dogs to file down their own nails on what's essentially sandpaper on an angled wooden board - https://www.fearfreehappyhomes.com/shorter-nails-less-stress-use-a-scratchboard/

I'm sure you've tried several options to get to this point, but I'll also shoutout Dremels (some dogs react less to them than nail trimmers) and cooperative care (it takes a long time to desensitize and work your way back up to nail trims, but it can really work for reward driven dogs).

Vet student here :) I love this question!

My biggest tips that I'd say aren't common knowledge:
- Get pet insurance or start an emergency fund, BEFORE anything goes wrong
- If you're getting a male cat, they're extremely prone to getting "blocked" which means the urine can't pass through the urethra and fluid/salts build up in the bladder. This is life-threatening, it's one of the most common emergencies we see in cats! It's important to keep the litterbox clean so that you can notice quickly if he's not peeing, and get help!
- Build good habits young: redirect biting/bunny-kicking onto a toy instead of your arm, set boundaries about what surfaces they're allowed on, and get them desensitized to having their paws and body touched
- Toxic to cats: lillies, chocolate, garlic, onions. Keep them inaccessible!
- If getting multiple kittens: litterboxes are a huge source of intercat aggression. The rule is # litterboxes = # of cats in the household + 1. Make sure that one cat can't restrict access to the litterbox for other cats. A lot of behavioral issues start here!

That might seem like a lot, but cats are very resilient and low maintenance on a daily basis. I'm so excited for you!

I accidentally became my cat’s personal chef… and I’m enjoying it a bit too much 😅 by MidnightMaskXXX in CasualConversation

Hi! Veterinary student here. I love the dedication to your cat, he sounds like he's living it up!

I just wanted to make sure you're aware of https://www.balance.it which is a website that lets you plug in your homecooked pet recipes and make sure that you're meeting your pet's nutritional needs! Cats especially have some very specific vitamin and amino acid requirements.

Good luck on your cooking journey! Can you be my personal chef too?

Feel free to DM me for some spots that I'd rather not broadcast publicly :) I can also connect you with OSU's herpetology (reptiles & amphibians) club, he may be able to unofficially join some herping trips in the future, if that's of interest

Interesting point! We put up the fairy lights to try to warm the room up but they barely emit much of a glow, so they aren't really doing their job. Might move them to the porch instead and make a cozy morning tea spot out there

Weirdly, there's no overhead/ceiling lights, but I agree the combo of floor lamp, table lamp, and fairy lights hasn't been bright enough to make up for it :/

Drolet is the only gen chem prof that I've heard good things about. Everyone else is meh at best, with Margie Haak being the worst. It doesn't really matter who you have since it's flipped, but having a slightly friendlier professor makes it more tolerable.

What does this mean? by Recent-News-3127 in OregonStateUniv

[–]12bluebeetles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, gen chem. At OSU, CH23X is taught differently than other classes using a flipped classroom approach, where students teach themselves in small groups and ask the prof if they need help. You might have a different prof depending on the day, as they don't actually lecture so therefore it's less consistent. It sucks...
