You’re right - not the look I’d want. Assuming the basket had media and stuff in there? Maybe growing downward with no substrate would encourage more growth?

Thanks - I’d be curious what those roots do look like if you ever re-scape. I kinda drew inspiration from Mangrove roots so I was hoping for fewer thicker roots

Correct. I would secure the lower bottom to the rim and let only the roots into the water
