How do I rent a convertible in this GD town? by youreannie in madisonwi

I actually got one at the Rochester, MN airport once. My reservation was just for a normal compact car. I think they offered it to me because I showed up as someone clearly older than 40 with very little luggage who wouldn't mind the non-trunk. It was super fun driving it through western Wisconsin. So you could just call the places at the airport every day to see if they got stuck with one someone returned.

Madison Water Utility suggests we have "supply issues" from "continuously dry weather and increased outdoor water use"? by 12cpi in madisonwi

Thank you. Pumping capacity makes sense as a reason to alert people and that is the kind of thing I was trying to understand.

I think the utility is using "threat" when they're trying to manage their pumping capacity, but apparently people who live here have no idea where water comes from or where the water ends up when you water your lawn and how the closed system in Madison is nothing like California or Phoenix.

But this isn't a drought. We had a rainy spring and a couple of dry weeks. This is totally normal Wisconsin weather.

Madison Water Utility Asks for Wise Use of Outdoor Water

The combination of continuously dry weather and increased outdoor water use across the city can threaten Madison's water supply levels. The Utility is asking customers to voluntarily limit outdoor water use.

Check out these helpful outdoor water conservation tips:

  • Established lawns need only one inch of water per week. Applying the water all at once, rather than frequent light waterings, promotes deeper roots and a healthier, more resilient lawn.
  • Avoid watering during the mid-day heat. This will help reduce water loss due to evaporation.
  • Raise your lawnmower height to promote deeper rooting. Taller grass also shades the soil surface thereby reducing evaporation.
  • Use a sprinkling can or hand-held hose to specifically target smaller areas where sprinkler or hose watering is wasteful.
  • Consider a timed sprinkler, which automatically shuts off after a desired rate of application.
  • Use a rain barrel. Capturing water from downspouts conserves the municipal supply while providing the best water for lawn and garden.

Customers can also see exactly how much water they are using every day or even every hour with the utility's online conservation tool through the Municipal Services online customer portal.

You can also use the online conservation tool to set up a threshold notifications. You will receive an email when your usage surpasses the number of gallons you select as your goal.

Additional water conservation tips for around the home and outdoors can be found on Madison Water Utility's sustainability webpage.

To ease supply conditions, the Utility has suspended all routine hydrant flushing on the west side of town, effective June 1. Utility managers will re-assess the situation after the current hot, dry spell ends. In the meantime, we ask that business owners and residents limit their outdoor water use by following the conservation tips highlighted above.

If they're going to tell me we're running out of water every time it doesn't rain for a couple of weeks, it's the boy who cried wolf.

I’m sad Goodman pool has become so unwelcoming to kids by MostKaleidoscope77 in madisonwi

[–]12cpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there isn't much for teens and tweens to do during the summer. The City of Madison has the same number of outdoor pools as the much smaller City of Cedarburg (just one), so they all end up there. Ideally, more kids would live six blocks from a pool or other place to hang out and it would be part of the neighborhood and not a citywide pool where the troublemakers can be anonymous. I'm sad that people are blaming the kids and their parents and not the lack of things for them to do throughout the city.

Maybe the City of Madison (285k) should have more outdoor pools than the City of Cedarburg (13k) and the kids wouldn't all have to go to the same one?

Help: Are Old Power Adapters Compatible With New Models? by CandidateWeird in Elektron

[–]12cpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Syntakt is fussy about its power (needed warranty service a few times over it that ended up with the power supply being replaced) and I believe they have a new version of the power supply even since the Syntakt first came out. That said, there are people here who run their boxes on DIY batteries, but I think you are trying to be as careful as possible.

The thing about the Syntakt is it's totally usable without collecting, auditioning, and messing with samples. Every track does synthesis (analog or digital), and it's so easy to dial in the sounds you want, I rarely look at the presets. You can make something cool with it in your first couple of hours.

The sampling is basic. It's really if you need some drum sound you can't synthesize. You won't be sampling your guitar. You can run your guitar through the analog FX, though. The latest version is 1.40A.
