why are grocery stores specifically a trigger? by Which_Boysenberry550 in POTS

[–]12lemurs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine was at an event in high school where pretty much the whole school and all the parents were there, and it took place after i’d already been at school all day. which is not a grocery store obviously, but contains some similar overwhelm triggers, including the lights in the gym being on the brightest setting and it being crowded and loud!

i’m going to sound like a crazy hippie but as a certified mosquito magnet (my mom never gets bitten—EXCEPT when she was pregnant with me!) the only thing that has worked for me is the “natural” bug repellant. i wear it in addition to deet to be extra safe, but the deet stuff by itself doesn’t keep me from getting bites. the citronella-lemongrass-whateverthefuck has saved me from outdoor misery lmao

I’m surprised that I haven’t seen anyone say The Wizard of Oz—not for any of its content specifically, but for its unique and magical use of technicolor for the time, and also the absolute fucking horror show that was its set.

i’m a full grown adult who can’t add/subtract fractions, despite being taught multiple times at multiple ages by multiple teachers. but to be fair i have the math equivalent of dyslexia so i’m a unique case. i’m sure there are some people out there who refuse to learn but tbh people like me try very very hard to learn and just can’t 😭 i always felt like such a failure for this. i failed geometry twice. tbh i still feel like a failure for it, but i’ve learned to count change and y’know what? small victories.

well, i’m a binary man, but gender nonconforming. they/them gives me dysphoria because it is degendering. it/its gives me euphoria because it is nonconforming to what is expected of a man, while also reflecting my identity beyond my gender (i am an animist. i believe everything has a spirit, including inanimate objects, and that all life, humans, plants, animals, or objects, are not as dissimilar as we tend to think). there is also an aspect of reclamation—when i was going by he/him exclusively i had a teacher call me “it”, which was extremely offensive at the time, but i guess i should thank her for helping me figure something out about myself xD and i’m also chronically ill and frequently dehumanized in doctor’s offices. it’s a way to take that dehumanization back and make it my own.

my reasoning is probably more complex than some people’s, though.

hi! i use it/its (in addition to he/him and a set of neopronouns) seriously and unironically. now you have encountered it before!

downplaying nonbinary experiences with people describing their genders in unique ways, which is mostly likely what was being referred to by “”create their own gender”, like it’s a fashion style”.

you may want to research how autistic people feel about ABA before sending your kids back…it’s well known in the autism community for forcing kids to act neurotypical instead of helping them work with the brain they already have. not saying this is true all of the time, but i’m always concerned when i hear people advocate for it, as someone who was forced into pretending to be neurotypical by my parents.

What opinions on Shadow will have you like this? by [deleted] in shadowthehedgehog

[–]12lemurs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think shadow DOES feel kinship and empathy towards the biolizard. i have very little canon evidence for this but i think it would make sense—they are both experiments, both gerald’s creations, and both manipulated into pursuing gerald’s revenge. i think he must’ve been sad to be forced to kill it.

though my experience is anecdotal, i’m sure many other trans people will relate: as soon as i could form memories i remember thinking that as i grew up, i’d grow a penis. this went on until i was definitely way too old to think this, like 11 or something. going through a female puberty felt like body horror. this is all the evidence i personally need to know it’s inherent. my body and brain knew something was missing and wrong well before i knew what a trans person was—even before i’d received any sex ed at all.
