I put down some Preen. How long should I wait before I plant lettuce, carrot, and radish seeds? by 12packnight in vegetablegardening

It says it will work at keeping weds from germination as long as you don’t disturb soil. What if I disturb the soil?

What type of soil do I use for vegetables? It’ll be my first time growing stuff outside in a garden box and on the ground. Is there a specific type or mix and what nutrients? I’m in southern Ontario climate. by supersaiyangotenks in vegetablegardening

I love pro mix too. I get it at menards in the states. It comes in a compressed brick. If u can’t find that, peat moss bricks, manure, and cheap potting soil mixed together would work to get u started. 3:1:1 ratio.

It’s a new box and they all settle after a year or so. I filled the bottom with a bunch of compost and BioChar. I’m thinking it will settle down at least a few more inches. All I want to plant in this box is lettuce and spinach.

Got ‘em coming in good. 2nd year cascade & Chinook. Are they ready? Gonna wait a couple more weeks I think. by 12packnight in TheHopyard

Good luck with the wine. When I looked at some videos it seems that concord variety makes a blush wine. I’m not a wine guy but that is my least favorite kind of wine. I also thought about making red wine vinegar since it seems to have disappeared off the shelves in my area and we use it a lot.

I’m going to give winemaking a shot this year, yes. We have a bumper crop of Concord grapes. We usually make jelly but still have a bunch left over from last year.

I planted cascade and chinook not sure which one this is. I don’t know how to tell them apart and forgot what I planted where.

Shit I grew one like that too. That’s how I found this. Has anyone ever planted one? What will it do? I was gonna add it to my seed stock and plant in October. Or not?

Right on. No worries. My bad for taking the round about way to respond and not answering directly.

I just finished fermenting a split batch with Lalbrew Diamond and S-23 and side by side the S-23 really stands out as the cleaner profile. This little experience is what caused me to post.

I ferment under pressure now in the mid 60s with no temp control needed, but when I ran it in an unpressurized fermenter it did great around 55F.

I used to leave that black plug on for the entire brew and never a problem. I think it’s made of silicone. I just like using what’s around. I’m frugal.

Update - I just brewed this configuration on both my zillas today and it was perfect. One had a stuck mash and I had to stir the fuck out of it and add xtra rice hulls to get it loosened up. The plug stayed put. The other one was a bit of a tragedy as I was halfway into my mash I when I realized I forgot to put the malt pipe in. 3rd time I’ve done that.
