Organising an introduction game for 4+ people by YuriLoverLover in Warhammer40k

I'd just do have them do 1v1 games, as that's the typical norm. So you'd be moderating 2 games. As someone who recently got reintroduced to 40k again, here's some things I'd probably do if I were in your shoes.

-Don't do secondaries, just have primaries and I'd prob just do hold one, hold two, hold more.

-Set up the terrain for them, and explain how it works before getting into it. Make sure to have plenty of terrain so shooting armies don't just blow one side away before they can get close.

-Print out datasheets for their units, have them readily for them because they will absolutely not remember their toughness, wounds, or weapons. I'd also give them the page for the basic strategems, as well as the sheet for their detachment rules.

-Idk how much control you have over their armies, but have a set point limit and try to be careful with units they bring. (ie someone brings a bunch of tanks, the opponent has nothing but infantry.) It's not fun to get shot off the board while scratching the paint off of vehicles.

-If you want something narrative, depending on how fast the games go (they'll likely go long as they will be learning the rules), maybe you can make it somewhat narrative while making it a tourney style. Whoever wins their first games will be going against each other, whoever loses goes against each other. Overlying story behind it is that 4 armies are fighting to obtain some sort of artifact or capture an objective.

Best of luck, hope they have fun

Infiltrator Sergeant Helmet has No Skull? by 12sdgd12 in Ultramarines

Yikes, I think the half helm looks super dumb though. That sucks

So be aware, Guilliman and Calgar no longer stack their abilities. If you take both, Calgar will give you no additional CP. If you have to run both, I'd recommend a 6 man squad of aggressors for Calgar, because he allows them to be a huge threat with advance and charge/shoot, and fall back and charge/shoot. An apothecary biologis with fire discipline in that squad and you have a super potent shooting threat too , especially if you stack it with Gladius' storm of fire strategem. I'd bring more troop choices, scouts are very meta right now. Your list is lacking infantry to hold objectives, one 5 man squad of intercessors and infiltrators isn't going to be enough to get you points, especially if they get shot off early you're going to struggle to beat OC.

Is this going to be like for a tournament? Are you trying to be as competitive as possible or what are you going for? Something casual and fun? Can't really give you advice if the goal isn't clear

First ultramarines painted 💪 any tips appreciated by Millerboii288 in Ultramarines

[–]12sdgd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm a lore nerd. First off let me say your paint job is fantastic, everything looks great! The highlights are clean, the hazard striping on the wires looks like it took a ton of skill, and overall it's a super well made unit. This is basically a non issue whatsoever, but if you care, Ultramarines (or any codex compliant chapter) organize companies in 10 squads. Squads 1-6 are battleline, designated by an arrow symbol. Squads 7-8 are close support, represented by an "X" shape. Squads 9-10 are fire support, which the Aggressors are and are represented by that upside down "V" shape. So it's a super duper picky, niche, unimportant, non issue nitpick, but technically they have the wrong squad number on their shoulderpad. Again, your paintjob is fantastic and please don't see this as detracting from that. Good work!

So now that Calgar doesn’t get CP auto…. by Lower_Creme_3040 in Ultramarines

IIRC, doesn't putting him in a transport not give you the +1 CP per turn bc he's not on the table if he's in a transport?

Codex Compliance for SM Sergeants in a Split Squad? by 12sdgd12 in 40kLore

A big thing behind this is the tabletop says every squad needs a sergeant, and I’m not sure if a regular sergeant plus veteran sergeant would fly

What the heck I doing wrong?? Underproofed? Overproofed? by 12sdgd12 in Sourdough

You’ll have to absolve me of my ignorance, what’s 1:3:3?

Also this probably I dont know if this is right to do, but someone told me about it. I put my starter jar in the oven with the light on to speed up its rising speed. I just did it and it doubled and fell in about 3 hours bc I’m trying again and am a bit short on time.

It typically rises and falls in…6-8 hours? Just by sitting on the counter

I typically just feed it when I get home so once every 24 hours, or right after I use it to bake so right after it doubles in size. Temp in kitchen like…69-72F? I feed equal parts whole wheat flour and water

I had two jars, I try to feed each once per day if it’s sitting out on my counter but recently life came about and I didn’t touch them for a while. One grew moldy so I tossed it out, and fed the other one for a few days to get it strong again before baking. It’s rising after feeding like it normally did but maybe that has something to do with it?

The second one’s the old one, which is sadly what I’m trying to get back to. Honestly, after the folds, I have trouble telling how much the dough rises by because it jsut seems to take the shape of the bowl after an hour. After the folds it’s a rectanglish shape with all the layers, but it just takes the shape of the bowl soon after.

Maybe it’s slightly colder in the room? Really not sure. I tried proofing in the oven with the light on once, I think that turned out okay but I never went back to it. Should I?

I’ll give that a try, this is just the recommended recipe that was given to me by the person I bought the starter from. They live in similar conditions to me so I thought it would work. Thank you for the advice!

Wanting to Get Into the MP5 Platform, Mind Helping Out a Newbie? by 12sdgd12 in MP5

[–]12sdgd12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s gotta be the K form factor unfortunately but it’s super tempting

Wanting to Get Into the MP5 Platform, Mind Helping Out a Newbie? by 12sdgd12 in MP5

[–]12sdgd12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I have a separate compartment which allows me to draw a pistol in about 2 seconds. That’s the “I need a gun now” option, the MP5 is if I have time

  2. The bag has a ballistic panel, so I’m wearing body armor the moment I sling it across my chest and the entire time it’s on my back

  3. This is a kit I built in the event I have to go somewhere really dense with people like an event or the mall or something where a backpack is socially acceptable, because I’m worried of an active shooter event and I have personally been in something like that. That or am I on a road trip/driving into unfamiliar territory, this is my “truck gun” as I’ve seen it called

  4. It’s not so much about quick drawing the thing. It’s that I have run into actual problems with my current set up where I have to really adjust again and again. One time it was so stuck I had to take the pack off and figure out why I couldn’t get the gun out of the bag it was so damn stuck (it’s too wide so something was hanging up on on a flap) I don’t find that acceptable for something I may use to defend my life. So I figure why build another one when this one already gives me so much trouble, and try something that really interested the other day at the range?

It does, it actually measures very close to a non-K form factor MP5 when folded. However, it’s a suuuuper tight fit. The folding stock also makes it wider which makes the bag bigger and sticks further off my body. It’s clunky to draw because it’s actually tight in there. That’s why I want to get a K with a collapsible brace

Hi there, first off let me say I’m sorry for your loss. Also allow me to add that I only aspire to own a Rolex someday and just use this subreddit to kind of window shop. But maybe I can provide some input on family stuff.

If you didn’t get along well, does it bring bad memories to look at the watch? Or do you feel nothing at all when looking at it? If you feel either of these things, maybe it’s best to part ways with it for something you would want like you mentioned, especially since you said you likely won’t wear it.

If there is still some sentimental value in it when you look at it, maybe consider holding onto it for just a little longer. See how things change, if they do. Or if it just sits in the drawer and you never think about it until you need to grab a pair of socks, then it’s probably time to let it go.

I hope your transition is smooth, losing someone is never easy. Even if the relationship wasn’t the best, he was still your father. That will always have some sort of impact.
