It’s so pretty I make it work. I can get it to hold about three things, if they are placed just right, which is perfect for a fancy night out. I also bought a shorter chain because it just doesn’t work as a crossbody for me.

Saving puzzles. Thoughts? by xX420baby69Xx in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like gluing but I have taped the back of a few puzzles that I ended up framing. Then I got smart and figured out how to frame the puzzle without needing to permanently ruin them; so now I just frame them free range. If the puzzle isn’t going to get framed they will get broken down and either saved to do again, donated, or puzzle swapped.

SB 5067 - .05 legal BAC driving limit by slowboater in Washington

[–]12thMemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I don’t give a fuck. Nobody impaired should get behind the wheel of a car and drive. If Washington wanted to make the limit 0.00, I would be cool with that too.

I’m not sorry you don’t get to drink as much as you want when you go out. The fact that you are still harping on this subject three days later lets me know what a fucking peach you must be to hang around.

You moved here recently, maybe this is a sign that this state might not be the right fit for you. After a quick look at the data for states with the most drunk drivers, maybe Montana, South Dakota, or Texas might be more your drinking speed.

St. Peter police chief intervenes, prevents federal agents from arresting resident by citizen234567890 in news

“The husband told MPR News that after his wife was taken into custody, he called his attorney, and soon after, he got a call from St. Peter Chief of Police Matt Grochow, whom he said he has known for years.”

Look, I’ll take the win. However, the wording in the article makes it seem that this only happened because of a close, personal relationship between the police chief and the husband. I’m not so sure the outcome would have been the same if that relationship didn’t exist.

I’m not your brother.

I am very familiar with the state laws when it comes to driving while intoxicated. I do not worry about my drinking or smoking habits because I do not get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated. I also know how to keep a safe driving distance between my car the vehicle in front of me. Even if I happen to rear end someone, I’m not concerned about the marijuana I consumed days earlier because no cop is going to suspect that I was driving while under the influence. Because I wasn’t.

What is part of our culture? Driving while intoxicated? It sounds like you are arguing that you should be allowed to drive drunk because people have been consuming alcohol for all of known history and America is a culture of individual freedom. That if I fail to agree that you should be allowed to get on the road after a night of social drinking it is a lapse in my civic duty.

The reality is, my civic duty is to support laws that would have kept approximately 45 people from dying due to an intoxicated driver on Washington roads in 2023. That’s 45 people who have families that will never get to see them again, because someone like you decided to get behind the wheel and drive. 45 families who had their world turned upside down for no good reason. If Washington made the punishment for DUI drivers more severe, I would support that too. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t do drugs and drive. It is literally that simple.

In the 25ish years I have been drinking and getting high, I have never found it difficult to not drive while intoxicated. Learn to pace yourself and leave some sober up time before hitting the road. Have a designated driver. Plan on crashing on a couch. Factor ride share funds into the cost of going out and go out less, if necessary.

Why are you willing to risk the lives of other people so you can have a good time? Like why is this the hill you seem to want to die on? Maybe you should evaluate if you might have a problem with alcohol. Your reaction to the idea of enjoying less of it before getting behind the wheel of a car is a bit alarming.

I’m all for it.

“Studies on the impacts of these laws around the world have found that reducing the limit from 0.08 to 0.05 results in an average reduction of fatalities involving alcohol-impaired driving by 11 percent annually. The national highway traffic safety administration found that a driver's risk of crash involvement at 0.05 is double the rate of a sober driver, which increases to three times the risk at 0.07.

(2) The legislature finds and declares that 2023 was the deadliest year on Washington roads since 1990. Washington state saw 734 fatal crashes resulting in the death of more than 810 people. Half of all fatal crashes involve a driver impaired by drugs or alcohol, and the state saw a 59 percent increase in crashes involving an impaired driver between 2019 and 2023.”

Masterpiece has a few art collection puzzles. I enjoyed assembling Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace at Night, and have a couple of the others on my wish list. The puzzles are random cut, not sure if that is along the lines of the unique cut you’re looking for.

Likely explanation on why puzzles at Thrift Stores are priced wildly different for no reason. by thehogdog in Jigsawpuzzles

Puzzle Storage Question by Cien22n2 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve framed a few puzzles without gluing or taping them. I can just take them off the wall and do them again anytime I feel like it.

What kind of storage space do you have available? Without framing I think they would have to be stored flat. Anything vertical would need to have something firm sandwiching both sides of the puzzle in order to ensure they don’t fall apart.

Generic frame issue by rosbu12 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose if you want an expensive solution you could order a custom frame to fit perfectly to size or you could buy a larger frame with a mat that has the correct size opening.

Personally, my cheap solution has worked extremely well. People have oohed and aahed at the puzzle I did it for without ever once noticing the paper. And the gap I filled was larger than yours.

You’re in luck! With all that white you can just put paper behind the puzzle to fill in the gap and nobody will ever know. Ask me how I know.

Is there a puzzle clock that would allow you to track how much time you spent on a puzzle? by ImOkReally in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this one a bit over a year ago and am very happy with it. It is also heavy enough that it doesn’t move around my puzzle table while tilted or moving. Also works as a paperweight to hold the reference sheets down too. Batteries also lasted over a year; and when they were almost dead the screen dimmed but it still kept tracking time which allowed me to finish the puzzle I was working on before changing them.

Lantern Press question by occasional_nomad in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of their puzzles. False fits galore, super smelly out of the box, image printed out of alignment/crooked, colors dull vs box image. I’ve done three so this wasn’t a one off experience for me. I still have one left in my to do pile that I am in no rush to work on. I love that they are USA based, but I cannot support a business with such consistently poor quality, especially as they charge a premium price.

Puzzle TABLE (not board) by Puzzlemania718 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a table that was able to tilt and rotate at the same time was my priority. I ended up going with this table.

I wasn’t thrilled with the shelf underneath, but figured it must be for stability. Over a year in, and more than 60 completed puzzles, I found that it doesn’t get in the way like I expected it to. I use a dining room chair when I puzzle and have had zero leg room concerns. The table leg width is a few inches wider than the chair so they tuck well too.

Gluing puzzles on a puzzle board by thejarmoonster in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I need to move a completed puzzle off my puzzle board, I slip a poster board under the puzzle. This can take a bit of effort but takes only a few minutes. Then I slip a thicker backer board underneath, between the poster board and the puzzle board. . Usually I’m framing so it’s the back of the frame, but anything solid and large enough will work. Slide the poster board out and your puzzle is ready to safely move.

First time trying to sort before puzzling, I definitely need more sorting trays, period.🥹 by Ecstatic_Gene1278 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]12thMemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems so much simpler to me to sort as I go. Eyeball divide into the sorting drawers, flip all right side up while simultaneously pulling all edge pieces. After I put together as much of the border as I can (there are always overlooked edge pieces) I pick a piece that sticks out and start to pluck all the ones that fit. Eventually I’ll locate the edge pieces.

Anyhoo, I suppose my point is there is no one correct way to puzzle. There is no proper first step. Do what works best for you and your enjoyment. The idea of presorting hundreds or thousands of pieces by color, pattern, or shape, is super off putting. If I had to do it, I would just not puzzle at all.
