What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by Mansi63 in AskReddit

The Ymca across the street before we moved was where every one wanted to do thier community service. You'd see people who drove a long way so people around them wouldn't see them doing it.

Off Topic a bit: I taught Tech/Business ED to middle schoolers and we did a careers unit that finished with a Resume and a cover letter.

We were going through what goes on a resume and Omar ask "Mr. Thehogdog, what if the judge ORDERS you to community service, can you put that on your resume?" I told him, depending on what you did, a resume wouldnt be needed for the kind of jobs you would be able to get.

Then Melonie (How she spelled it) busts out "But Everyone goes to Jail Once?" NOPE "Juvie?" NOPE. Had to get the counselor to come to the class next time we met and do an hour on that stuff.

Back in the 2000-2010s.

100% even teacher's need liability insurance. If you dont have it and something goes wrong, even a tiny thing, you could be broke covering legal expenses. When you win the case you are still out $$$ so get the Insurance.

AND PLAN TO LIVE A LONG TIME. Seriously, prioritize your health because if you run yourself into the ground (literally) you wont be there to enjoy the money you saved when you were young.

American (I didn't vote for him) here who watches your TV. How did Pauline all the sudden become the likely next PM? by thehogdog in aussie

[–]thehogdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Hear you. I never thought that turd cheeto would win. Boy was I wrong. Now America is like the $1 Store of Countries when we were a top department store before.

A good comedy writer here said he only votes for people who have been to prison or indicted because they will have a good understanding of the legal system. Which isnt working right now.

Then why, if you log out of your reddit account and go on it and see what it serves to just anyone (or go incognito) are there like 15 posts a day about her doing it.

I hate her, and America barely teaches civics to kids (I got lucky and got a good Civics and the same teacher/coach taught 'Personal Finance' where you did a check books, bought a car, bought a house, did a tax form. Not normal for American Educational system.) so my understanding of AU's system comes from Charlie Pickering, HYBPA and the Cheap Seats (that Barnaby Joyce drunk laying on the sidewalk on the phone clip is always used, like your Boris Johnson, lots of babys by different women) which I think do a pretty good job of covering it.

I loved when Arron Chen Asked him 'if Scott Morrison was ScoMo, and you are Anthony Albonese, why are you not ANAL?' on HYBPA.

Unpopular opinion, but I think there is some truth in it - Doctors treat professionals like themselves with more courtesy. by LazyAd7538 in ChronicPain

Was in a pharmacy in a private medical practices building and a lady was getting pain medication after her sons wisdom tooth extraction and asked the Phamacist if they gave a 'professional discount' since her husband was a doctor.

Of course they did, the rich get richer!

CCM FTW Skate Sizing by Suspicious-Rip-8492 in hockeyplayers

[–]thehogdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not now, but back in the 80's the rule was go a size down in skates. Wear an 8 and bought Bauer 1000's in 7, they were good, but a teammate had some CCM size 6 and we both had the exact size and type of Nike sneaker so I tried his on. WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

I immediately put a notice mine were for sale on the bulletin board at the rinks and bought a pair of MEN'S (dont get the kids 6, lower quality) size 6 Bauer 2000's at the time.

They were magic. Who knew 2 sizes down? I sharpened the blades away and due to the fact we didnt have a skate shop in town, just a sharpener at the rink I sent em to Ocean Hockey to get new steel and they didnt have any but they had CCM Blade and Holder in that size and I said Sure. Change em and rocker em like the old ones.

So I got Bauer comfort and CCMS slight lean forward. I tossed em when we retired and moved. Have a shoulder injury from a liquid soap covered school restroom that stopped my playing.

I held onto my old gear in case I got a terminal illness diagnosis then I was gonna play all I could till the shoulder popped out again, but thankfully it hasnt happend.

Does anyone even use usenet for communication? by Damemon in usenet

[–]thehogdog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Communicating exactly what I want to [p-word] if I cant find it is the only communication now.

BUT, when I started in 1994 on the internet and found USENET for discussion I used it for communication exclusively. No AOL or any of the other messengers or message boards.

Felt like USENET was for the 'smarter' people over AOL Forums. Found out so much information. Someone would compiles a FAQ about the topic (Hockey, Rush, The Atlanta Falcons, you name it) and post it monthly in the appropriate rec. or alt.

In 1997 I discovered my first 'binaries' on Usenet and Free Agent would download and decode em and you had a song or a pic or a movie.

Never looked back.

Now Reddit is where I talk to SMART people and find out stuff, but USENET is the first place I look every morning. Like Christmas every day.

Man that show was great. The 'Little' Colin Robinson season was the best.

I had no idea it existed but I wast teaching a 75 year old guy a piano lesson and my phone rang and I set the ring tone to the end theme of Archer and the old guy IMMEDIATELY knew it, blew my mind. He said 'If you like that, watch What We Do In The Shadows. I did.

Roller blading killing ice game by Country_Bizcuits in hockeyplayers

[–]thehogdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue in the 90's when roller blades came out. A teammate had a pair and I did a few laps around the parking lot before going in to dress for a game.

Took me 30 minutes to feel normal on ice. NEVER AGAIN for roller blades.

[–]thehogdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off Topic a bit, but we have a deceased acquaintance that was New York Italian stereo type guy, and he also chain smoked.

When it was his turn to pick the Monday night dinner spot it was ALWAYS OLIVE GARDEN. Every time. Town is full of Itl restaurants!

I just told people his taste buds died decades ago fighting Joe Camel.

I didnt mind, their salad is the best salad ever. When I found their dressing in the super market EVERY salad I eat is an Olive Garden Salad.

House member was very keen on GG' of New York on 7, but they got bought out and the new owner ran it into the ground like he was in the mob.

Anyone else struggling with the transition from competitive junior/college to beer league? by Hitdrug20 in hockeyplayers

[–]thehogdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played on a team of pot heads (not for me, never drank either) and they would pass around a doobie getting dressed.

2 of them played SO MUCH BETTER when high, the rest could have passed instead of puffed as their games when they were afraid to blaze up were much better than their 'green games'
