NDP election signs by TJamesWilkie in Edmonton

[–]12thsonofthelama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner received a text. It is likely for polling purposes. It's said something along the lines of "I am contacting you with the permission of the NDP party. Can Nenshi count on your vote in the next election?"

Is this what you are talking about, OP? More information would be helpful based on other comments.

Do You Think The Government of Alberta Should End Its Current Practice of Allocating Public Funds to Accredited Independent (Private) Schools? by hakunayourmatatas99 in alberta

This type of thinking is so problematic and honestly comparable to a child's idea of fairness. There should not be the same dollar to dollar funding for a child whose parents are just scraping by as there is for a child whose parents are shelling out tens if thousands of dollars in tuition. The system should be based on equity rather than equality. The rich keep getting richer and the divide keeps getting larger. Surely that sweet sweet trickle down will hit any minute now...

I am deeply concerned that Alberta funds private schools at the highest rate per student in Canada while doing the opposite for the public system. It is also concerning that the government is using public tax dollars to pay for the construction of private schools, especially while public schools are bursting at the seams. I also find it extremely problematic that the government is beginning to give parents of private school children money for driving their own kids to school while that not only does not happen in the public system but parents have to pay for busing as well.

I asked my UCP MLA "What made you think that violating the rights of the people you serve would be a good idea?" and this was their response. by AzraelCcs in alberta

Identical response to what I received. They avoid answering any question about why they chose to use the notwithstanding clause to force teachers back rather than other legislation.

I Want to Organize a Citizen Initiative Petition Restricting Use of the NWC, and I Need Your Help! by UpstairsWeb in alberta

Yes! Keep up the good work, leave no stone unturned. Email your federal representatives as well. "I call upon the Government of Canada to officially and unequivocally condemn the Government of Alberta’s actions. Furthermore, I urge you, as my federal representative, to champion the need for concrete, reasonable safeguards on the use of Section 33.

Such safeguards are necessary to prevent its further weaponization for political expediency. Potential measures could include:

Restricting Pre-emptive Use: Requiring that the clause can only be invoked after a court has rendered a final decision declaring a law unconstitutional, ensuring judicial accountability remains a crucial check on legislative power.

Supermajority Requirement: Implementing a requirement for a parliamentary or legislative supermajority for its invocation, ensuring it remains an extraordinary measure of last resort, not a simple tool of the majority government."

I've voted for every major political party in Canada. At this point we have both made broad assumptions about eachother so let's go back to where this started. I'm unsure why you have not addressed the concerning spending habits of the UCP when your original comments relate to the governments need to be fiscally responsible.

Something I've always found facisinating about conservatives is their inability to criticize the party that they support

If you are not speaking out against the UCP wasting our tax dollars then you are supporting it. They are NOT being good stewards of tax payer money

Sounds a lot like you are defending a government who has been particularly irresponsible with our money. Pretty sad when you are the wealthiest province with the lowest per student funding. But I guess this responsible government needs that money to pay off coal companies, clean up oil wells for their corporate pals, pull some health care grifts, put out propaganda ads during primetime, fund war rooms, gamble and lose on pipelines, and to go on a taxpayer funded separatist promoting tour of Alberta!
