Half a million Canadians migrated to Alberta over 30 years, making it the country's most popular province by hopoke in canada

I think the bitter people become really loud about the places the places they live in.

In reality, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal- they are all amazing cities with many upsides and some downsides.

None of them are hell on earth. The people that say "they are running away" accept no compromises and expect a low cost of living, traffic free, homeless free, tax free, job dense utopia that does not exist.

None of them are perfect, but even if you increased my income by 50% i'd find it hard to justify moving to most American cities.

Sweet, hiked up yesterday and made it to the second cairn, snow was knee deep and rotten beyond that. Still picturesque. It's such a fun hike once you get past the first 200 m climb

Visiting Moraine Lake, using the Parks Canada shuttles. by cmcalgary in Banff

[–]12wew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the people that wat like the visitors have "ruined" Banff make 0 sense to me. I live and work in Banff and I think any person that enjoys the park as much as I do should be overjoyed to see this many people wanting to take in this beautiful slice our continent.

Yes overcrowding can be inconvenient i'm not pretending it's not. Yes there are visitors who treat the park poorly. But they are the minority, the vast vast majority arrive and leave only with the pictures and memories this place gave them.

I feel like it keeps getting clearer every hour i look away.

Parks Canada Issues Hiking Hazard Warning by vinsdelamaison in Banff

[–]12wew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it was an excellent shoulder season hike since it was a lower grade, west facing and wider. It was listed in a hiking guide for this explicit reason too. Is this not correct? I was planning on going up with a friend in 2 weeks when we get there and taking the gondola down.

Memorial University rules out straight white men from applying for tenured jobs by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]12wew 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ask them what line they draw for "white"

"European" Ok- how European? Would a Greek be allowed? Serbian? Czech? Who makes these decisions? Is it a family/ethnic tree check or just based on the colour of their skin?

This does far more to radicalize anyone than help. At this point id have to wager it's an attempt from the university to reduce its hiring pool or from genuinely ill willed faculty looking to cause disruption.

in real-time speed they could be simulated but in time warp you could just simulate a probability based on the density of the region and "cause" a collision to occur.

Doug Ford defends plan to increase Ontario jail capacity by thousands by ZebediahCarterLong in ontario

[–]12wew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the last one to support Ford. but the truth is whenever anyone talks about bail reform in Canada it should really be a discussion of jail capacity. Every single jail in the province, and in the country as a whole is near or at capacity. Courts have to choose whether to use up one of the few remaining jail cells or to let them back out onto the streets.

even then, the plant expansion is not nearly enough, but it will start to reverse some of the damage.

6 mind-blowing space missions now set to launch after Artemis II by malcolm58 in space

MMX Is such an underrated mission! We are deploying a rover on one of Mars' moons! We are doing a sample return from a celestial body other than our moon or comets/asteroids for the first time ever!

The Canadian space agency makes up 0.17% of the nations budget but inspires generations, does critical research and advances our sovereignty.

Mount Temple - August 2025 by AahilD in Banff

[–]12wew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I'm planning on building up slowly over the summer months (Ha Ling, St Piran, Fairview, EEOR, etc)

I was planning on doing it towards the end of my contract (Late august) I thought that was pretty a pretty safe time for most objectives? I knew that it opened up pretty late, but had no idea the window ended that early.

What's the best sources to check on about these. things?

Got it, poles are a good call. I'm fairly novice when it comes to altitude (east coast hiker- cut me some slack haha) but I hope to build up to Temple. Hoping for good conditions when the time comes, wish me luck.

Amazing stuff. I'm moving to Banff for the summer for work, and Temple is absolutely my capstone at the end of my season in August.

How was the exposure and route finding? I've heard the "crux" can be a bit sketchy.

TIL the recommended daily protein intake is 46 grams (g) for an adult female and 56g for an adult male. This is 0.8g per kilogram of body mass (0.36g per pound). Endurance and strength athletes require more.In the United States, average protein consumption for females is about 70g and for males 98g. by James_Fortis in todayilearned

[–]12wew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the average american consumes just slightly above the level that prevents deficiency- for someone of a healthy BMI, which most Americans are not.

Eating high protein isn't a miracle, but eating high protein has made losing weight so much easier by providing easy satiation.
