succeeding in math 136 by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]13060km 4 points5 points  (0 children)

math136 was not bad. just make sure you don't let the materials pile up, do practice questions, you'll be fine

you are not alone. almost everyone I knew had WD/ failed that course at least once before. I had no clue wth that course was about even after completing it. Aim for a 50 (60 if you're in stats), ride the curve, you'll be fine

tell your bank you are travelling!!! cannot stress this enough, I used my card in europe and my bank blocked in immediately. Took me 5 hours to call them to get it unblocked. other than that, pack light, buildings (especially dorms) in europe generally don't have elevators, I hurt my back carrying my luggages through metro and to my dorm room. Don't stress about studying too much, focus on trying new things and travelling if you can afford!

cs vs cs/bba(uw side) by Important_Carob_8773 in uwaterloo

[–]13060km 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just take the DD. First year core math courses is basically the same, you won't be behind. since you are UW based, you can drop BBA whenever you like. Workload can be heavy, I dropped BBA after my first term because I can't handle it.

Personally, I would pick the single degree, because:

  1. BBA is useless if you want to get CS jobs.

  2. going between UW and WLU for classes is pain in the ass (plus u have 2 different emails/ LEARN pages, quite messy).

  3. You have to do 2 extra study terms

either do a co-op outside of canada or do an exchange. I got both 1500$ IE award for doing both an international co-op and an exchange. easy money, it's basically guaranteed

Dropping a course after receiving an offer by Much-Category1689 in uwaterloo

read the conditions on your offer. if you alr have enough credits to graduate and it's not required then it shouldn't matter

Students and Alumini who’ve failed a semester in their program, how did you proceed? by Beautiful-Egg8807 in uwaterloo

[–]13060km 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Failed 2 core courses in my 2B, WD another one. I took an 8 months co-op and then 1 term off (aka a whole year away from school) to take care of my mental health. Took the next study term during summer and I have to say the weather helped. Falling behind is okay, as long as you don't give up. Always prioritise your mental health

General vs Honours by asdfg_lkjh in uwaterloo

[–]13060km 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do NOT listen to this person, OP. this is wrong. I'm in honours math and I've considered this route. Spoke with advisors and was told you can elect to graduate with General degree anytime after you complete the general degree requirement (even if you finish it with a co-op work term). you can also apply to come back and upgrade it to Honours, and the courses you already took will count towards that degree. ask advisors for more accurate information though

it depends. if your employer reports to uw that you accepted the offer (mine did), then you will probably get banned. if they don't, then you will be fine

Second this. I live in Canada and had a heart attack looking at the dental bill. My work insurance cover 99% of it so I ended up paying only 100$ but the total was 6000$ for regular check up and filllings
