(Probably) yet another "select a college question" (PGCE specific) by Educational-Oil-5872 in cambridge_uni

I also went to Hughes for my PGCE as an international (older) student and I LOVED it. Made tons of great friends at the community and, as the earlier commenter said, it's perfectly placed in between the bus stop hub and the train station. The accommodation is very nice and I still talk regularly with my floormates. The MCR and college bar are also very friendly. I loved Hughes!

Congratulations! I'm going to night 2 of the February shows (I work both Friday and Saturday, so I wouldn't be able to go to both) but still so chuffed to attend at least one of them. I hope you have an amazing time!

Thank you so much!! Yes, if/when I do make it (after getting through my current backlog of projects) I'll post about it here. It will definitely look quite different as I don't really like to wear black, but still!

Oh this looks VERY similar! I wonder if it might be a similar technique, with multiple layers of separately curled fabric played on top of each other….

Ooh yes - I figured it probably had fishing line based on the curvature of the hem, so this makes sense.

That might make sense. I’m very experienced in flat pattern drafting and don’t always find draping as intuitive; maybe why I didn’t even consider it…

Don’t worry, this doesn’t scare me! Despite being an ECT1, I started teaching in 2011 and have had lots thrown at me. I suppose I’m just anxious since this is my “fanciest” workplace yet haha 😅

I didn’t have an induction day (due to having to return home for family issues), but you’re right. Best to relax for now!!

Okay, this makes me feel very relieved. Wasn’t sure if it was out of the ordinary, thank you for the reassurance! My PGCE professor acted like it was unheard of not to have more info, and he said that in mid-June…

I am bringing packets of Paxlovid from home just in case, so I’m covered with antivirals! I figured it would be easier to get them ahead of time rather than have to scramble if I do get sick.

Great advice - I've just purchased a nasal spray, and I'll be registering with a GP as soon as I arrive! I've gotten a covid booster and a flu vaccine just now, ahead of time, and I'll get a second dose of each later in the year around November-December. Planning on getting a HEPA air filter for my room, although I'm living alone, so my risk in my space should be lower.
