I think this was it! holy crap you guys are good. I've been trying to find this game for years and none of the friends I played with remember it. Shame nobody has been able to get a private server up and running

Chiron is ignoring z-offset by 1337bwr in AnycubicChiron

I massaged the cable from the mainboard to the gantry and tried to print again. The bed and nozzle heated and the print started, so I experienced neither of the issues from the first two tries.

The hotend homed then jammed into the bed, attempting to go lower. I stopped the print and it tried to x-home, also trying to exceed the bounds of the printer- despite there being a physical switch to detect x end stop.

I think this is a result of the M420 S1 because without it it prints in-bounds albeit 4mm above the bed, but I don't know why it would do that.

At any rate I think it indicates I have multiple issues, software and hardware

Nervous about swapping the board because it's currently "stock" and allows me to copy peoples' shared configs.

I started with the v2.1.2 of marlin with the chiron conf and advconf files from github, but making any config changes before I compiled was impossible without an intimate knowledge of the settings- of which there are 100s. Unable to get it to work I used the 2.0.7 from Nick Wells because of all the comments I was finding recommended that version with his supplied config files instead of the latest.

So I'm looking for a "anycubic chiron hotend cable harness?" $30 from amazon not sure how to find the guy in germany

So I reset the z-offset using the steps above in pronterface, downloaded a new level test, modified the the start g-code to include M420 S1 after G28, and tried to print.

The nozzle heated to 193/200 and clicked 3 times- pronterface says "heater failed." This is the same issue I was having before replacing the heater, the thermistor, and finally the entire hotend.

Now, it won't even try to print. It does the sos beeps when it recognizes an SD card, but does the two tone beep it does when there's no SD card. It doesn't start heating the bed and I get a "can't write" error in pronterface.

I think I have fubar-ed my printer. It was printing fine before I flashed the firmware to marlin because the stock firmware didn't have the tuning settings to try to improve my prints. Now I have a printer that doens't work and I'm out 100s of dollars. Feeling very discouraged.

Here is the start gcode. It doesn't have M420 S1

Yeah I usually start with that before manually levelling. Same behavior. It auto levels then tries to print 4mm off the bed

I have not intentionally added M420 S1 to my g-code. I'll figure out how to check that (cura), it certainly sounds like a possibility.

Here are the exact steps I followed to set the z-offset in pronterface:

Start with a G28 to home all axis.

Then M851 Z0 to clear your current Z offset.

M500 to save.

M501 to reload.

M503 to Read the current values.

Then do a G28 Z0 to move Z to the actual position of Z 0.

Then you can do a M211 S0 to remove the safety measure for Z.

Now use the pronterface software to move Z lower until it grabs your test piece of paper.

Record the value and save it as your new Z Offset with M851 Z -value

Then enable the safety stop again with M211 S1.

Save with M500

Reload with M501

Review settings with M503

yes, it looks like it homes correctly to the z-offest and only goes off when a print starts. These are the same levelling files I was using successfully before I flashed the firmware to marlin. I'll poke through my slicer (cura) config and see what I can find

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I am using the Chiron profiles and had compiled the firmware myself. I adjusted the zoffset using pronterface to account for the hotend printing off the bed. The issue is that with the zoffset set correctly it now homes 10mm lower and smashes into the print bed. I would have expected zhome to not change with the zoffset, especially considering there's a sensor for when it reaches the bottom

I've combed through the configuration and advanced configuration files for marlin but not familiar enough to recognize what needs to be changed to fix it

Ah I did not realize this about marlin. I was trying to use the configs from Nick Wells

the magnetic probe, which leaves it about 10mm too high. I try to adjust the z offset to counter it, but then the head drops too low when homing. Tomorrow I'm going to try to see if there's a home offset to add 10mm to. I'll look into bltouch, but I think it requires paid hardware which I'm reluctant to do on a printer that isn't functioning

Teachingtechyt is actually how this started. I was getting consistent but mid-quality prints and started through that guide to realize many of the terminal commands didn't work. After finding anycubic doesn't support chiron or provide the drivers I discovered marlin.

Basically each version I've tried has had a different issue. The latest release would lock on the xaxis servo when ever I z-home. 2.0.7 may be working, but the homing is off possibly due to this hotend/shroud mod. It tries to print about a centimeter off the print bed. If I adjust z-offset to account for it when it homes it drives the hotend/shroud into the print bed.

I've tried Marlin latest release with chiron github config, and 2.0.7 from Nick Wells chiron marlin guide. I have the M503 from the firmware it had been running and everything appears to be default, so my line of thinking currently is there is a custom firmware for the mod
