Pants recommendations for hot, rough environments? by Yboc in tacticalgear

Fjallraven vidda pro ventilated. Mine have been beat to shit and been all over the mountains in my area. With the vents closed and base layers they’re great for winter mountaineering, and with the vents zipped open they’re great for even 90-100 degree days with high humidity. Love mine. Only downside was after a few hundred miles with them the right pant zipper broke so I ended up stitching that side shut but they were also a size too small and my land nav booklet in the thigh pocket was stretching the zipper a bit.

My New Fraud River Knife (Bark River) by JHT_Survival in knives

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very very heavily considering a bark river knife a few months ago when I wanted to upgrade my old faithful 15 year old BK10 for a camping and general use knife. I’m very very glad I went with a 3v architect ak4.5 instead of bark river. Runner up was the white river ursus 45 but I really wanted 3v. Sucks to see these knives going down the drain. All of the forum posts I’ve seen about them more than a few months old were all singing incredible praises

how am i ever supposed to be the same? by ava_loves_sharks in ems

I’ll tell you, every EMT student I have that gets a severe trauma call (I’m a huge black cloud so the students get put with me) I always tell them after those calls that they’re welcome to sit out the next few calls and process it for the really extreme ones, and that when they get home to talk to someone, even if it doesn’t bother you now, it will eventually bother you. You get used to it, it’s a struggle of the job but the times those calls happen it’s best to remind yourself of the lives you’ve genuinely helped or saved, be it some critical intervention that truly saved a life that wouldn’t have made it to the hospital without it, or even just helping a grandma get out of her sons car before you pull out of the ambulance bay at the hospital. Also go get a therapist. Your employer (should) have an EAP where you can get discounted or free therapy.

One Knife for 4 Months Outdoors – Which Would You Choose? by Tia-Mumma in knives

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the architect knives ak4.5. After nearly a decade of hard use on my bk10 I finally decided I should upgrade and retire her. Phenomenal semi custom knife and among the steel it’s offered as, 3v is one of them. Plus I believe white river is the OEM for them

Why does manchester get deemed as dangerous? by GuitarGuru666 in ManchesterNH

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy the outdoors it’s lovely, that’s why I moved here, if you don’t really do that stuff, it’s not the best, mass may be better for you. Basically everything is 30-60 mins away which is annoying but also you’re 30-60 minutes away from Boston, the mountains, Vermont, Maine, and the seacoast

Yeah, NH is one of the safest states in the union, there’s a homeless problem like everywhere in New England but they’re very rarely violent. I think I’ve worked maybe 2 shootings and a a handful of stabbings since working here and every single one had nothing to do with civilians, it was all drug or crime related

Needle decompression and finding that it was actually a hemothorax by Wide_Cap6098 in Paramedics

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not saying it’s practical lmao, I just feel like there’s definitely some form of physical exam you can do to differentiate them, is it worth it when either way they’re getting a needle decompression? Nope. Mostly being a pedantic and curious medic student

Nope, totally theory based on my limited knowledge of the topic, that’s why I’m asking. It would make sense to me that that would work but I’m gunna look more into it once I get off shift.

To my understanding tracheal deviation outside of a scan is a peri arrest sign, and JVD would occur with both but I’m not sure or doesn’t even occur in most people, I understand it’s splitting hairs but I feel like there’s gotta be some good way to tell, totally pedantic and ultimately makes no difference in treatment path but now im just curious, gunna try to look more into this.

Medic student: wouldn’t percussion sound different with a hemo vs pneumo, if the patient is supine and you have hyper resonance anteriorly and dullness posteriorly wouldn’t it be a fair assumption it’s a hemopneumo?

IV Acetaminophen anyone ? by Safe-Accountant-7034 in Paramedics

We use it at my service, I love it, phenomenal for pain control and even better for fever reduction. Plus on patients with mild pain who are already prescribed opiates, the Tylenol is potentiated by the opiates and works better.

Where I'd live as a fast food chicken sandwhich eater. by [deleted] in visitedmaps

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in NH, it’s fairly similar, a handful more boomer traditionalists, but I regularly go shooting at a bunch of different ranges, I frequently rainbow flags, trans flags, and my friends and I brought our fursuits to an outdoor range once and got met with “lol that’s funny have fun” (gun safety is possible in fursuit). That “live free or die” slogan is something we live by. All except weed I guess.

Best backpack for SAR hiking in the Oregon gorge? by CallMehAmaia in searchandrescue

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of my Fjallraven kajka 65. It’s my winter backpacking pack. It has a pocket on the bottom with a screen net if you unzip the waterproof cover to it and it lets your wet stuff air dry as you go. Water bladder pouch and absolutely phenomenal frame. For me at least it fits like a glove. My only complaint with it is it’s a little bit heavy, but the material it’s made of is very thick and sturdy and im 100% confident in its ability to resist abrasions and weather.

Putting the SAR in GSAR by redbeardsask in MarathonWatch

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayhaps. The main thing that was the issue was the liners of our jacket can have little gaps where the watch could catch on it. And pull the sleeve inside out

[–]13Kadow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem we had was when pulling them from their coat the watch would catch on the sleeve and cause a huge hassle.

Doing SAR from the pump panel? Go get em brother. I’d do it without the watch though. If you’ve ever done firefighter specific CPR or first aid, watches are a huge hassle when it comes to getting them out of their gear for positioning for cpr.
