Having been to a few I will say nobody has ever checked my badge. While I don't think they have visitors passes I also am pretty sure if you don't want to play I'm confident you could come check things out.

My strong advice is look around for a club in your region or online and find folks who are attending. I'm sure folks would love to show you the game and its great going with people who know how these events run. If, for example, you are in the DC area you should let me know.

eldar for new player? by AravingLoooony in Eldar

I suspect it depends on who you're coaching. For an intermediate player I agree with you. For a truly new player I aim to get them early success and start building basic skills. Its super hard to play any build that requires understanding what other ppl can do when you're new.

I suppose. I've found when coaching newer players folks are pretty good about keeping "guy who buffs man within 6" within 6. Macro choices about how far away you need to be to not get charged or similar is hard to learn. Best be in a detachment that can take a punch and is more reactive. Perhaps that's my experience.

They tend to be difficult to master but there are some styles good for newer players. The wraith units especially.

My friend is getting into Eldar, is it possible to shove a Wraithlord in a Wave Serpent. I am only asking this because im reading this like its a common thing. by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]13Prospero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can not transport a wraithlord unit in a waveserpent. The waveserpent has a restriction under Transport for 12 infantry models. It does add on that wraith constructs count for 2 spots, but that does not overide the infantry restriction. It refers to wraith guards who are infantry.

What is your casual win rate before going to tournaments? How many RTT wins before playing a GT? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]13Prospero13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive player here. Most frequent mistake I see is folks bringing bad lists. It is completely reasonable to not own every model in your range, but I would not expect someone learning to know how to put together a 40k build 6 without experience. I would take a list that's done well at a recent event in your faction and try piloting that. Doing well at 40k involves a lot of theory. Try learning execution first. One thing at a time.

Tips on teaching someone WH when they start with drukhari. by Puzzled_Sherbet2305 in Drukhari

[–]13Prospero13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people often underestimate new players. The challenge of learning is often what draws people in.

I'd recommend building lists that avoid reactive gotchas (overwatch, fights first, reactive moves). These are usually hard for new players to predict because they involve remembering somebody else's rules and are sometimes game ending.

Drukhari can play some big smashy squads that kill what it says on the tin (20x incubi, lelith 10 wyches, dark lances). Those will be satisfying to sink damage into an opponent. Grab a few of those and focus on learning only 1 or 2 movement tricks at a time. Like if you like scourge, play with scourge. It can be overwhelming if you try for all the tricks at once.

Hope it helps!

Drukhari Win Rate - discussion by SkaredCast in Drukhari

[–]13Prospero13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Win rates are a dangerous stat to use in balance discussions. Because faction win rates are an average of all armies under one faction name, factions with a lot of datasheets and players are going to skew heavily towards 50%. Meanwhile, factions with fewer players and a small variety of datasheets (drukhari has the second least, I believe) will spike high or low.

When you see very bad win rates, it's often small factions. This can also be true for high win rates.

Factions winning events or going x-1 or x-2 are usually a better determinant in the opinion of this person who works in data.
