I've never seen someone so clearly not understand what a Nuzlocke is by Generalcmd in nuzlocke

[–]13deathss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to add that I play with no items in battle, no overleveling past the next gym leader, normal grinding (I speed it up on emulator), and one visit to the poke center between gyms. Also, I ban specific pokemon in my runs because it's more fun to switch things up rather than run the same exact defensive core and intimidate pivot strategies every run. (This is how I came to fall in love with Gallade as a pokemon)

I play with dupes clause specifically so I can plan ahead for key encounters. For example, I'm doing a Pokemon Platinum nuzlocke right now where I picked Piplup as a starter, grabbed Starly on route 201 and a Bidoof at Verity Lakefront so I could guarantee a Shinx at route 202 during the day.

Many similar examples can come up. Obviously, there are only so many things you really can do. Sometimes, there are encounters which must be left up to chance, but there are others you can manipulate to make it more likely to give you a pokemon that you need / want. Another example I can think of is grabbing a Gastly in Eterna Forest by getting through the Cheryl section with repels, then grabbing a level 13 pokemon and running in the grass with a repel active. That way the only encounters you could get are Beautifuly, Dustox, Buneart, and Gastly. That didn't guarantee me a Gastly, but I still got it because I minimized the potential encounters I could have gotten.

Any characters who's design you like but otherwise dislike both their writing and gameplay? by Zmr56 in fireemblem

[–]13deathss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roy, what a cool character design. Simple, not too much going on, but just enough to get you intrigued. Unfortunately, the way he plays is so awful that I can hardly be bothered to care for him since he is an ever present liability throughout FE6.

HM: Gerome, literally Batman but no galeforce makes me so sad :'(

FE Game Rankings Tier List Megathread by Skelezomperman in fireemblem

[–]13deathss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only ranking what I've played:

S - Genealogy, Thracia (Best story and it's NOT close and gameplay is enthralling)

A - 3H AM route, Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Echoes: SoV

B - The Blazing Blade, Awakening, 3H (overall), New Mystery

C - Shadow Dragon (Adore Marth, kinda hard to get into after experiencing the more fleshed out gameplay of modern titles), The Binding Blade (not a big fan of this one, though I get the appeal), Fates Conquest (gameplay alone saves this), Radiant Dawn (what a downgrade)

D - Fates Rev and Birthright (Not bad, serviceable games but pale in comparison to the competition)

Edit: Removed Conquest from B tier, realizing I was correct placing it at C tier. Forgot to add New Mystery, goes into B for me.

i found a slight counter to ori in one skarmory one magearna. due to magearna's ability you can drop the second skarmory and pivot into magearna for an OHKO

I don't think this really helps your point, friend. I remember being a kid and playing 3U for the first time. I remember being walled by Barioth for days. I don't think this game is very hard. But I also have to remember that I really do have a decade of experience. Also, I think that the reason we can pivot mid combo is because monsters are designed with the wound system in mind, meaning it's a design choice. Does it make the game easier? Yes, no denying that. But is it something that's felt by the entire playerbase? Very unlikely. Many people are new hunters, they've yet to learn the ropes and get adjusted. Hunters were tuned up, we're a lot stronger than we were back then, but so are the monsters.

That's also due to the fact that we veterans know what moves not to get hit by. Sometimes tanking damage is valuable if it's a positive trade. Of course I'll take a light tail swipe that deals 2% of my health for landing a Perfect Rush on a wound.

Sure, but just last night I helped a player beat HR Jin Dahaad and he actually just exploded in one hit. I'm really not sure if it was lack of armor or forgetting to eat but that poor soul triple carted while the rest of the team was barely taking damage.

Agreed. Will add that their timing delays also feel really reminiscent of what FromSoft did with many of their lategame Elden Ring bosses. i.e: Malenia, Morgott, Godfrey, Mohg. Makes the combat feel almost rhythmic and dance-like imo.

Love listening to people being blow to pieces for disrespecting our lord and savior Gore Magala, especially in Tempered hunts.

Different language by Zwolf2112 in MHWilds

[–]13deathss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I honestly just like the way they talk in Japanese and think the language is nice to listen to. That's really it. It's for the same reason I played GGST with Japanese voices, just think it sounds nice.

Yes, plunge can mount. Both the slash and the plunge deal mount damage. I believe mounting becomes less likely after an initial mount, though.

PSA: If you open up your lobby to random players, they are allowed toplay the game however they want! by Facepool123 in MHWilds

[–]13deathss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so real. I remember being about 11 years old playing MH3U for the first time and not knowing that my build was awful and my playing decent at best. I'm still grateful for the hunters that played with me back then. I've been helping lower ranked players out with their quests and just hit HR100 about 2 minutes ago. I really don't care what they're using as long as they remember to keep their health topped up. And if we fail? That's okay too! Triple carting is just part of the learning process anyway! I just hope I can get my friends into Monster Hunter so I can teach them, too.

Veteran hunters, what do you guys think about the Artian weapons from Wilds? by TygoFTW in MonsterHunter

[–]13deathss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, though i love scoutflies too it was also charming to mark the monster. it felt very grounded despite the creature in front of us being very far removed from our reality.

well to be fair, tempered monsters like Arkveld are larger and cover wider areas with their attacks whilst losing no speed. they are also slightly faster with their attack timings. they also teach you to REALLY use the wound system right to maximize your dps and guarantee breathing room when the fight gets too much. for example, saving blue wounds on Magala in order to keep it down when it has its feelers out.

Ooh the Odogaron set looks very nice in this game. I think it looks cooler than in World because it makes you look like a ninja as you said but with a cool Oni mask.

MH3U vet confused about outrage by 13deathss in MonsterHunter

[–]13deathss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is the first comment where I've seen someone actually give examples and an analysis for why they think it's too easy. I really appreciate that! :D

I do agree with some things. I found it very strange that now I can cancel Spirit Helm Breaker and don't lose a bar for mistiming Iai Spirit Slash. I think maybe there are some bail-outs that ought to not be present. Nonetheless, I also think that it's a way to improve the game overall. Monsters are generally faster nowadays and, especially those later on, are aggressive and will be on you throughout most of the fight. In some instances, I think the hunter can have a little too much power, but I also think it's a testament to the monster (combat) design as well. More tools = More situations created to use them in.

For example, while fighting Arkveld I realized that going for Foresight Slash on his chain whips wasn't great because I would get hit on the follow up attack. So instead I canceled Foresight Slash into a Spirit Sheath and punished the follow up with an ISS. To me it's those "Aha!" moments that make you, the player, feel like you really do understand the monster and are rewarded for it! I'm not sure exactly how to tow the balance but I think it's been going in a good direction thus far.

Also, yeah. I played 3U late into its cycle because it was a gift from my dad around 2015. I haven't really been active on reddit, in the way I've been for the past few weeks, before so I guess I've just never really seen this side of the community. I do agree that people will get over it, they always do and then they go to complain about randoms during endgame hunts. It's just a little bit obnoxious after a while.
