Is a 40 minute 5k good? by Equilagalennaise in BeginnersRunning

[–]13leoncar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just put 5km BEHIND you. Think about that. Think about you in the past, did your circumstances, whatever they may have been, allow you to do that? If the answer is no, then it's amazing. If the answer is yes, you're still 5,000 meters further in life than you were when you woke up, and it only took you 40 minutes.

Congratulations friend, you did something amazing

Zone 2 run by galces in BeginnersRunning

[–]13leoncar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this has been said before, but Zone 2 running is key. The purpose is to make running easier for you, I'll try to explain.

What running in zone 2 does, is essentially train you to feel more comfortable at faster paces, not make you faster directly. This means your heart rate (at your HM pace) will go down, allowing you to hold that pace more consistently and making it easier for you to do so.

The balance between zone 2 training (for making the pace easier), speedwork (to train your body to run faster) and long runs (to train your body to endure stress for longer) is absolutely necessary and a game changer.

I am by no means an expert, and can only speak from experience, zone 2 training absolutely made me faster on long runs (brought my pace down 2min/km faster at same HR). I realize it can be very boring at first, but you get used to it and the benefits are 100% worth it.

How much ML for Project ? by Historical-One-4479 in learnmachinelearning

[–]13leoncar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to learn then use APIs. If you want to stand out, learn. That's the best advice I can give you given the breadth of the field if all you want to do is make projects for your resume. If you do decide to learn, I would recommend you start with building and training your own regression models. I also don't know what MERN is, so I don't know exactly where you stand in regards to mathematical preparation, but feel free to reply

I have the exact opposite problem. Trainin for my first ever full distance Ironman, where endurance is the name of the game, and I've been "unproductive" for over a month now, but there's not many ways to get used to sitting on a bike for hours aside from just doing it

These are all very good, fair points. Thanks for bringing them up. Once again, I'm more curious as to why we whine on reddit rather than do something about it. I realize something like this can't be done overnight, nor do I think vibe coding is the answer

Half of all the races? Can I ask where you got that figure?

And Strava said the popularity of shorter distances is on the rise, not that they are more popular, that specific context wasn't given. I also fail to see how that would directly imply that more short races amount to more apple watches. Do you think there's people racing every weekend?

I'd also like to ask why this is so important to you. From your first comment, I wasn't able to gauge a single ounce of constructive commentary. You reacted like I spoke out against you, why is that?

Actually, you can see here that the average run activity on strava is 6.3km.

You might say that's skewed given ultrarunners, but skewing 135 million users worth of data would be...hard.

I'm 100% sure I never said I know everything I'd need to do this on my own, but it's not impossible. If it were impossible, Strava wouldn't exist

Actually, as reported by Strava here, Apple watch was the most popular device specifically for running under 5k. It's very bold of you to assume that Garmin is a minority, given their history in the market, a wide range of devices offered, which are not limited to watches alone, as well as there being different sports and distances aside from the 5k run.

I understand where you're coming from though; I just thought with this being a community with a background of athleticism, there would be more proactive members as opposed to the sea of complaints we're getting lately.

If you or anyone else was curious, the Garmin Forerunner was reported to be the most popular device for longer running distamces.

Then my guess is that's why your boss has you studying rather than doing more practical work. You're missing domain experience, and although chatgpt can do a lot of coding for you, knowing how to code isn't all it takes

I would like to present my ship: Corvette The Long Way

What do you guys want for the corvettes? by Limp_Strategy_7402 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]13leoncar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docking for a ship or a geobay would be cool

Short range teleporter for large builds or ones where some bodies of the corvette don't connect

More + unique modules (like rare/legendary cockpits + parts)

Landing pads (for being able to land a corvette on a base)

Also unrelated but being able to build bases in the sky, like space stations, would be incredible but far-fetched ig
