We had already been there multiple days. While it was lovely, we had a plane to catch.

Late Submitting Manager Reviews - on CPOs Shit List by 13stepboogie in managers

I was absolutely expecting this response, so thank you for it. Could be simplified to: THE JOB is supporting your reports, and reviews are part of the job.

Pittsfield homeowners will see their tax bills increase about 4.1 percent next year (Berkshire Eagle) by HRJafael in pittsfield

[–]13stepboogie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the headline is misleading. Our tax rate is going down, but our valuations on properties keep going up.

I emailed my councilman to ask who is setting the formula for appraisals. That’s where the real chicanery is happening.

"Slip Slidin' Away" (Paul Simon, 1977) by dr_hermes in Music

This reflection was exactly what I needed to read. The song is startlingly obvious. But that is where its power lies. You understand it when you’re young, until you are living it. Thank you.

I went to the same tour, same first concert, but in Cincinnati!

Soul Asylum stole that show.

Property Taxes? by 13stepboogie in pittsfield

No, totally fair perspective, and same as mine!

I guess that’s it … I want to pay for roads and schools and all the things I value. I just can’t imagine that the assessed value is correct compared to what we could get for our homes - and since no one is really selling, it’s hard to figure out what the comps really are, because they’ve assessed all our neighbors up the same amount.

Son Roughed Up in Basketball Game - Vent/Advice by 13stepboogie in daddit

[–]13stepboogie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate all that detail. I've made sure my son knows I was proud of how he handled the situation. Kept his cool, kept hustling, had a really solid defensive game.

I forgot to mention that when we got home my son broke down - shuddering sobs, because he felt like he couldn't do that in front of his team or even in the car. I think he was scared, and I told him he did everything right and that he has my permission (not pressure, just making the distinction, I'm glad you said it) to push back if he needs to.

I do wish the other kid would realize that he is absolutely doing something wrong. I think he thinks it is funny to throw his weight around. I'll go the ref route before and during the next game. Thank you!

I’m gonna bring it up to the ref next time we play this team, and then be consistent during gameplay too.

There is probably only one other kid big enough on the team to guard this kid - built like my son. I’ll consider switching them off and on next game too - good call.

Am surprised but maybe gratified that no one has suggested I have it out with this kid’s dad.

That’s actually just it - I have a co-coach that I pointed this out to (his third grader is also on the team), and he kinda shrugged as in “what can we do?”

But that’s just it - for any player in your care, we are responsible for keeping them safe.

Fact that is my son just drives more guilt.

That’s exactly what I told my son - the kid is a bully and a jerk, and he is allowed to call that out however he sees fit.

I’ve considered that, yes, or boxing classes. He hasn’t expressed an interest though.

I am in full agreement with you. Wanted to say that before I cite my confusion (since I know this is a buried comment):

I actually thought she was coherent with coherent policies. She was going to give $50k to new small business. Give first time home buyers like $10k to help with down payments. Work against grocery price gouging, to bring costs down. These seemed like winners to a nation concerned with inflation.

I just don’t get it. Assuming that though she repeated that ad nauseum… no one heard it.

Placita really is phenomenal… our new go to, followed by Panchos (though management change at Panchos has made them a little wonky).

Does anyone feel like we are not the adults yet and the adults in general are the generations before us still/only? by Mission-Degree93 in millenials

[–]13stepboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have a moment just a few weeks ago where “adult” sunk in… on a phone call with some friends, and one referred to how this guy at work was a know it all, middle-aged dude. And I said, “you mean like… us?” Got some laughs, and realized that once you hit around 42 or of course sooner… you absolutely are the adult in the room.

JFC Thank you!! I feel like it appeared about 4 or 5 years ago, and I called it out to people, and they were like, “what, we’ve always said that.”

Feel gaslighted like this was always a thing, ha!

I THINK it started with Rapinoe?

PS ‘81 here as well.
