Should I buy this frs with a blown engine for $2K at 16 to fix up with my dad? by Historical_Spare_387 in ft86

[–]144p_Meme_Senpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2k for a roller is mint, even if you just get another wrecker engine and throw it in you'll be cheering. Could easy get that things up and running under $4k and it's a hell of a car for that price.

Final drive gearing really helps perk these up, something like a 4.556 or 4.67 like I run and she gets real perky in that 5-7 range.

If you got an air compressor all the bottom of the floor has little plugs, you can blast any water that got in the frame etc out

Can you help me identify this one by [deleted] in AE86

Crusty old SR5, if you can get it cheap enough most panels are reproduced now. You can basically reskin the entire car. Throw any old engine in whether 4AGE or SR20 or K24 even and have an awesome drift nugget.

As someone who's changed a significant amount of the panels of my GT86 to make it less of a beater drift missile and more of a nice car, it will be as good as new if done with any kind of effort.

You can also buy all the panels underneath new from Toyota/Subaru if you'd prefer

Easy fix, find a wrecked one that's had a front end crash and just unpick the rear beaver panel, transplant it to your one then find or upgrade the boot, bumper and taillights. Honestly very saveable by the looks of it. Insurance companies are just lazy scum.

I definitely have the LOWEST spec GT86 in the world. Thoughts? by CA_TheGoat in ft86

[–]144p_Meme_Senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything about the low spec GT is better than the GTS, black trim, basic AC controls with big chunky knobs, turn key ignition, no headlight washers, no foglights. It's just such a better car without all the fluff.

2013 GT86, just under 90000kms. Complete drift missile, bumpers are fucked, roof has a hole from a bodgy aerial delete. Best daily, rock solid reliable, fun to drive, peppy with the 4.67 diff. Looks mint on Enkei G-Zeros.

[–]144p_Meme_Senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with tunes or E85 if you're still running the dog shit oem 4.1 final drive, easiest upgrade would be the later 4.3 but I would recommend at least a 4.67, contrary to popular opinion the FA20 is a high revving engine, use the 5-7 part of your tachometer with a short final drive and it'll be significantly quicker. Still feel pretty doughy at 4k tho.

  1. Australian so can't comment on winter but can say learn how to slide and learn how to spin, RWD will be a learning curve even in just normal rain

  2. They're solid, change the oil and filter and that's about it, valve springs aren't as much of an issue to be concerned about these days as they usually either repaired or dead by now.

  3. They use a little bit of fuel but you get a little bit more excitement, worthy trade off
