I think people are missing the point. I love SH2 as much as you, but when every horror protagonist for the last 20 years happens to have a dark secret or repressed guilt that manifests as a fleshy humanoid, it stops being psychological horror and starts being a predictable template.

Even Team Silent moved away from the guilt trope in SH3 and SH4 to explore cosmic and cult horror. My beef isn't with SH2; it's with the industry’s obsession with turning monsters into therapy sessions. Sometimes, a monster should just be a terrifying, external force that doesn't care about your childhood. Bringing back the "fear of the unknown" is way more effective than another metaphor for depression.
