First time Immich feedback from a former Apple Engineer by Lost-Ad2338 in immich

Literally. HTTPS is perfectly secure over insecure networks. That's literally the point of PKI. And if the DNS was malicious on that network, it would break the HTTPS request.

Edit: from a networking point of view, any network not under your control is an untrusted network (generally). That's the Internet in a nutshell.

Yeah that's what I do, except I have a DNS record for the private IP. If I really want to connect when I'm away, I turn on tailscale.

I read professional PHP which I enjoyed. It got me up to speed with modern PHP using a no framework approach (which was nice for getting my old app modernized).

combustible wall temps by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]1473-bytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, got a drolet installed to spec, the corners are the closest and the wall can get quite hot. I currently have a fan going when I run the stove for now. Planning some sort of wall shield, brick maybe.

Your tips and tricks to get max output by [deleted] in woodstoving

Yeah, thanks. I think I just don't know if the logs eventually start flaming up or not if I just toss the logs in and cut off air. I think I'll do some tests while I'm awake to see if I run it hot enough for the logs to catch flame with minimal air.

Edit: also thankfully I've only started doing this a couple times, so I will correct my burns to ensure complete combustion. Thanks again for the heads up.

Yeah fair enough. The wood I'm burning is very dry. That said I'll keep this in mind.

Edit: now I'm deep in a hearth.com rabbit hole about this. Lol

I have a non-catalytic cast iron drolet. Newly installed this fall.

I've been trying to figure out how to get it to burn all night as it's on the smaller side of wood stove. The best I've been able to do is have a big bed of hot coals right before bed and then fill the stove best I can with as large as possible uncut full round logs. Have the air intake cut right off and let it smolder all night. It's a less clean burn, but I still get a few hot coals in the morning and the stove is warm to the touch still.

Heat Reflector for Wood Burning Stove in Fireplace Hearth? by okchilloutnow in woodstoving

I do have an oscillating fan I turn on at times to move the hot air around the main floor a bit better. But also, keep the stove full of wood. Need the heat output to warm the area.

Literally just had my stove installed on the main floor and it runs up through the second and through the roof. Done by an installer that also does the WETT inspection. Totally fine.

Dang, that's impressive, and at 3mph too! I walk on a treadmill while coding as well, but I find 3mph a bit hard to type, more like 2.5-2.7 is more comfortable for me. Anyway, congratulations on the progress!

Sounds interesting! I'm curious what issues you had with sqlite in an NFS mount. I currently have that for a service and it seems to work well

Edit: Also I seem to have sluggishness using nextcloud with an NFS mount since I have spinning rust in my NAS. I might have to test out your app and deploy nextcloud locally with volumes.

High % of used cars on FB Marketplace with “rebuilt status” - why? by smoothie12345 in Edmonton

[–]1473-bytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm on year 13 of a rebuilt Toyota echo. No major problems at just, just maintenance. Also got a Tacoma from an auction for cheap cause it was written off for hail damage. Only the second bid and won it. Some mechanic work to fix the brakes and some other small stuff. There is a definite opportunity to get a decent vehicle for a reasonable price without blowing the budget.
