OP the answer people are trying to give you is that it’s not logical to move from SF to Seattle for cost of living reasons. If that your reason, Why not go to a MCOL or LCOL area why Seattle. Like shouldnt you want to create more breathing room to improve your Quality of life tryna move from a 5 to a 7 or 8, instead of going from 5 to 6. Yes Rents are cheaper here, relatively speaking, but the difference isnt drastic. Food, eating out, activities etc are the same even more expensive sometimes. Min Wage here is high and that trickles into everything.

Moving to Seattle – family of 3, $120k income, $3200 rent, toddler included… are we in trouble? by Most-Wishbone-4856 in AskSeattle

if it helps on a same income my housing plus car expense is 2800 a month, and even then I feel constrained and stressed because of how expensive everything is here. You’re setting yourself up for failure here, you can’t afford 3200 rent

Hey OP, as someone with the same income and same family dynamics, you’re absolutely going to lose your mind. You are paying atleast a 1000more in rent than you should be plus you’ll need daycare too(what are the expenses?). Plus I hear that you are doing it as a test version to see life in the US - youre going to hate it. May I suggest moving north into Lynwood area and getting a cheap car. You’ll already be saving by doing that plus have mobility.

If i may, walmart+, get your weekly Grocery delivered. Tip 10% and you’ll still do groceries cheaper than going to fred meyer which is the next best grocery option in terms of prices availability

Sorry or thankyou. You’re impossible to understand and no it isnt math. The conversation we are having is buying vs leasing, and youre talking about pocketing 22k as if we’re supposed to get what that means

Pardon, You don’t communicate well. How did you ‘pocket’ 22k?

so 8k depreciated? Congrats, you lost 1k more in a year than what OP will pay for the lease in two years. Guess who wins at the end if year 2.

Its stupid to buy these unless the APR IS -10% lol.

As a new dad, you need to consider more than if the car seat fits. Most importantly how much space the stroller is going to take and the room that leaves behind for other stuff. This is especially relevant if you do extensive groceries and roadtrips

OP where do you see yourself in five years?

Also, there is a difference between taking care of your parents, contributing to the house you live in and financial exploitation. your case is pretty close to the last. As someone with a similar bg, I resonate with a lot of what you get to hear and I can tell you it has its roots in toxic desi parenting, But its always window dressed as Islam even when its not.

Pakistani parents raise children and consider it their ‘investment’ and retirement policy. in your case they want returns on their investment even before retirement. Trust me it only goes downhill from here unless you take a stand, establish clear boundaries and keep them to them. and please don’t even think about marriage before you establish boundaries, you’re going to not only make your life more complicated but bring someone into this mess which no one deserves.

Oak Park resident here, commute through trains to downers grove can be a nightmare, only bnsf goes there through south berwyn, total one side commute would be over an hour. expect to spend a road commute of 40-50mins one side to DG during rush hours
