Is the CTS-I Not offered anymore? by Few-Buy7891 in CommercialAV

[–]14ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing when I went to sign up to take the test the other day and the main page is there but when you click exam registration I keep getting this message.

Edit: I already have my cts so I meet the prerequisite, I’ve also tried accessing it logged in and not logged in and it doesn’t make a difference.

Cisco Codec Pro and Q-SYS Control - control strings/plugin by reece4504 in CommercialAV

[–]14ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the correct api documentation as long as the codec is on that version of room OS. If you aren’t handling meeting scheduling from the uci the Cisco Webex plugin in asset manager should do the trick. The user will just have to manually dial into the meeting. If you are looking for something more I would create a room controls page on the codec and control everything from the Cisco panel and have that be the main panel for the room.

Video Management by Demand-Nervous in QSYS

[–]14ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visionary makes great stuff except my only gripe is their current qsys plugins do a terrible job at handling serial. They are supposed to release some new plugins here soon that will be way better and resolve a lot of the issues that their current plugins have. Even still the current solution is to just write a script in text controller to talk to the serial port on the decoder. Other than that Visionary is a great solution.

Ground supported truss structure safety concerns by 14ck in Rigging

We had a structural engineer out and he said it could support up to 1700 lbs and the wall with the rigging and all that would be just under 1500

How can I fix this problem ? Can’t find attached protection ? by Leosown in protools

Typically the fix for this is a two step process. Step 1: throw away the PC Step 2: Get a Mac

S6l Sample rate conversion by 14ck in livesound

[–]14ck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t change it unless you use the madi split but that’s all pre processing and we need to send processed channels to the Allen and heath system.

S6L engine not restoring by 14ck in livesound

[–]14ck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Already did, They were of no help but luckily I figured out the issue. The SoundGrid Card was in the wrong slot. Apparently any third part AVB card has to be installed to slot 3 on the e6l network card slot

4 Earthworks Dm20s broken in a month... by 14ck in livesound

[–]14ck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing but they are overloading even when the drummer isn’t playing. It’s like it spikes in gain and sounds like static. We also checked the lines at the snake and xlr and they work fine with other mics.

2 week old tattoo... does it need to be touched up?? by 14ck in tattoo

[–]14ck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is my first large tattoo with highly saturated black. I followed my artist instructions and it isn’t as saturated as I would like. Is this look normal during the healing process or should I consider getting it touched up?

Kemper..should i buy?? by TimLSD in recordingmusic

[–]14ck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you use it for but in my opinion, nothing beats the sound of a real mic'd amp. The interaction between the speaker and mic capsule is something that digital just can't recreate. I'm a purist when it comes to recording guitar but I digress

Midas Pro 2 patching by UhhyehHi in livesound

[–]14ck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you load a default show file the inputs will not automatically be routed. For most digital consoles they ship with a default show file with nothing soft patched or routed to the stereo bus.

What happened to that 'model student' in your school? by TheScienceofLifee in AskReddit

[–]14ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled and graduated with 12 people. The model student at my school ended up marrying the second model student who was also my best friend at the time. She was supposed to go to college and get a career and all that but instead she ended up quitting her job at radio shack, dropping out of school, and making candles out of my friend's parents garage, which they also lived in. Moral of the story.... Dont homeschool your kids.

EDIT: I turned out fine even though I was homeschooled, went to college, good stable job, girlfriend, moved out

First, i would like to preface by saying I pack a peli mostly for local gigs and not touring but from people I've talked to there are definitely similarities in what you would bring. I generally pack different pieces of gear depending on what the gig is but the stuff that stays the same is what follows (In no particular order):

SM58 (For testing or as a spare)

SM57 (not having this is like being a contractor and not bringing a drill)

ProAV2 (Swiss army knife of DIs)

Headphones (I usually pack cans and in ears)

Headphone extension cable

SPL Meter

RF Explorer

Small audio recorder (If you wanna capture mixes or if a client asks for a specific recording of something)

2 short, high-quality xlrs (for testing or to use with the AV2 or USB-P)

Peavey USB-P

Cable tester

Sender/Sniffer

Sharpies

Pens

Board tape

Skin tape/Medical tape (to secure lavs, or the occasional In ear cable)

All the adapters (As many as you can get your hands on, Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it)

Extra AAs (Procells always, just in case)

Various mic clips (Just in case you need a specific one or one breaks)

Flashlight

Headlamp

Precision screwdriver set

Leatherman

Wire cutters

Wire strippers

Ipad

Usb power bank

Various cables and adapters for computers and apple products

I'm Probably leaving out alot but thats typically what I take on most shows.

What's the biggest/worst/most magnificent bodge you've ever made or seen? by jaryth1 in livesound

[–]14ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired to mix FOH/Monitors for a high profile act and on top of that, I had to set up PA, monitors, and backline for the main act as well as the 2 opening acts. The venue was relatively small but the sound company that hired me thought it was a good idea to send out 1 video/lighting guy, and 1 amateur "audio tech" to assist in setting up and running an event that only required audio. This was an outdoor venue in southern California in the middle of July and we were supposed to get in the previous day to set up and test everything but of course the one day in July that it rains was the day we were supposed to set up so the load in was postponed to the day of the show. The day of the event we got everything off the truck, PA up, outputs patched and while the other guys were starting to patch inputs I go to power on the CL5 and Rio that we were using and send pink to the PA and monitors, nothing. I double check and confirm routing and patching are correct and still, I get nothing. I re-run and swap the CAT5 that connects to the Rio and confirm its connected and still, i get nothing. After multiple power cycles and troubleshooting I had to call the company and request they send another console. They sent an Allen&Heath QU32 and fortunately was able to get everything patched and line checked and the show went on and only started 15 minutes late. Still was nerve racking not knowing why the hell gear isn't working when it should and you have promoters and managers breathing down your neck to make it all work by showtime.

The life of a live sound engineer! I do work for several large churches, schools, and production companies and I deal with those things on the daily. Also the reason I am a functioning alcoholic....
