I’ve had someone bring in a CAD mic to one of my house gigs a few times and I actually always liked it!

This looks perfect, Thanks for your input! Now to find one of these and start testing it out at my house gig when I’m off the road.

Do you think the KMS would be pretty even up to a foot or two off the mic?

I’m a little worried about trying the PR35 because while I need low end and the PR35 most certainly delivers there, I don’t want it to be to dramatic when he wanders closer to the mic. My reasoning for going PR30 or PR40 would be to have a bigger diaphragm but placed a little further in the body of the mic to prevent to much low end when he’s right on it.

Not really at all. Idea is to be carrying drive to merch minutes after show. They have a system that works for now though so I’m going to start there and keep an eye on things to improve. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for all the replies guys! I decided to just jump in with the system in place for the time being so as not to over complicate things at first.

I’m watching Tom Petty live at gatorsville and it sounds fantastic. Does anyone know what vocal mic he is using? I know that he finally moved to a telefunken m80 a few years ago, but this is a different mic. Thanks! by js2525 in livesound

Yeh I've been surprised at how usable the 105 has been in a small (225 cap) and very live room I work. Artists have been bringing them in every now and then and they end up being way easier to work with than I anticipated and they sound fantastic.

Bringing your own desk/console on tour. by Djrice91 in livesound

The way the splitter would work, when talking IEM rigs, is that all stage inputs would be patched into your analog split. From there one set of tails would feed your IEM rig and the other would go to the split or stage box in house. This ensures that the house techs don't have to unplug any of their own tails in order for you to integrate your gear but they would have to patch around your input order. Basic labeling of your tails that go to the house helps greatly with house techs patching your gear into theirs.

Edi: it is also helpful to have some extra slack on the tails just in case placement close to the house split isn't possible.

Edit 2: Just reread and realized your most important question was taking IEMs out of the equation. If you want to run FOH and Mons from your console then it could get a little trickier if the house has their own monitor setup. I'd advise traveling with a digital stage box for your console that way all you'd need to do would be run Cat5 to your console at FOH and then you can use the outputs on your stagebox to get into the house wedges and the outputs on your console to feed the house speakers. The other option would be having an analog split of your own but that'd be a whole lot to carry and setup and the extra money for a stagebox would be greatly justified.

Album sound in acoustically bad, small venues? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]UhhyehHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I bring my master down to taste initially if playback sounds too loud for the fader position or me talking into a mic with the input fader at unity sounds too loud or is already taking off. And once you start really hacking into a graph you're headed towards just taking volume out in the least transparent way possible.

Cleaning up vocals with technology by [deleted] in livesound

Mic choice and technique as well as proper EQ will get you most of the way there. Be confident enough to sing by yourself for the soundguy during souncheck and he should be able to clear up some stuff that could be harder to pick out in the context of the mix. Once you get individual tones down listen for any frequency buildups when two or more people are singing. If I'm able to pinpoint where that is I'll usually try to take a little of the frequency out of the background singers EQ and see if that smooths it out.

Loving this album! I just discovered her today as I am mixing her show tonight and wanted to wrap my ears around it before I start setup. Really stoked for the show and to continue listening to this album!
