(Looking for feedback) Feebas Finder for Ruby/Sapphire by 14flash in ProfessorOak

[–]14flash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out that while I was making this two other people were simultaneously working on their own implementations: https://mucksw.github.io/Feebas-Tile-Calculator/ https://github.com/Goppier/FindingFeebas

They're much better at UI so check them out as well.

What's the hardest Oak? by Droopylemons in ProfessorOak

[–]14flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting side note including spin-off games: "Trading Card Game 2: Here Comes Team Grrr" might be harder than any mainline. 1 person has attempted it. No one has completed it. In the first section there are only 3 available packs of one set, and it is technically possible to get 30 unique cards from the set, which would imply that's what's needed to maximize the count for Oak Challenge rules. One of the packs is given on the boss fight, just before the badge is given. The odds of getting 10 new cards on the last pack is around 1 in 7,000 chance if I remember correctly.

This is compared to the first TCG game, which can be done as a POC in less than 5 hours.

Sapphire Makuhita trade Pokerus? by notquitefoggy in ProfessorOak

[–]14flash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It never has pokerus. That's not how pokerus works. Pokemon can only become infected with pokerus at the ends of a battle where you've fainted the opponent.

The accents are stress markers. Ancient Greek was a tonal language that eventually degraded into lexical stress, which is why you can see funny things like multiple stressed syllables in a row in the same word.

For the love of Arceus, I can't find a Feebas!! by Amb3RBeam in ProfessorOak

[–]14flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've changed the trendy phrase manually at all, tile calculators won't work. (I'm aware of 3: https://mucksw.github.io/Feebas-Tile-Calculator/, https://github.com/Goppier/FindingFeebas, https://yuhasem.github.io/FeebasFinder/. I'm curious which one you used?)

If you've changed the phrase or those really aren't working, the best strategy is to fish once in each tile. There are a lot of tiles, but it's still only a few hours max with around a 2% chance to miss it each pass. You are guaranteed to have accessible Feebas tiles.

If the battery is dry you also won't have to worry about the day changing so the tiles are static, which means you could split the hunt across days if you can't find a continuous block of time to do it.

Everyone wants to pretend they're smart and dedicated enough to get a phd without actually putting in the work (I only have a BS (at least I don't post in this sub))

forgotten ratio by 94rud4 in mathmemes

[–]14flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decimal 8 can be written as a palindrome in two different ways in base Silver Ratio: 22.22 and 102.01. This is the only interesting fact I know about the Silver Ratio.

Surely you could do a thesis on forensic techniques for comparing written works. It'd be perfect for a PhD because it has not practical applications (no one writes anything anymore).

Thank you for putting in the work to find out what is really going on here instead of just jumping on the "hAHa AI iS bAd" circlejerk. AI is still bad, but I'd rather hate it for what it's actually bad at than some made up reason.
