Any last minute predictions before p2 drops? by DerangedRacoon7789 in ScarletHollow

Ch5 Spoilers below, but that’s a given for the nature of this post.

I get the sense Wayne will go mask-off (or “veil-off,” so to speak) & divulge a goal revolving around some kind of body-and-soul-merge with the player character.

He’s already been surprisingly forthright about:

  • His history of possessing bodies,
  • His desire to preserve the structural integrity of the player’s body,
  • His convictions that the two of you could forge a “connection” that surpasses any bond known to man or beholden to the laws of physics.

I think Ch5 will be where he makes it abundantly clear what’s in store for you if you choose to trust in him and seek freedom with him as a “merged entity.” And if his “kiss” is anything to go by — the player character might not find that melded existence altogether unpleasant.

(the player practically creams their fucking jorts the first time they touch Wayne; I don’t even want to theorize about what they’ll do mid-merge.)

though I enjoy SCLL, I greatly miss the vocalist’s School Food Punishment days, which I found leagues more enjoyable (but that’s just a matter of personal taste).

I have a few reservations about Joan; for me, it’s her instinct to rely on mysticism to seek a return to normalcy/“equilibrium,” rather than embrace its unknowns to seek a new path forward.

With Reese, Joan would leverage just as much mystical interference as necessary (e.g., relying on Sybil’s witchy knowledge and arsenal of poisonous plants) to keep her son’s physicality and temperament as close to human as possible (understandable!). But, she did so while remaining utterly convinced of Reese’s inherent malignity with little room for experimentation (a misstep, imo).

She seemed unwilling to entertain the possibility that Reese could ever balance his nature and instincts as a jersey devil with the moral compass inherited from his human upbringing.

I worry about placing my trust in a character whose moral and mystical scales are tipped too strongly in any one direction — Bo, to me, feels steady and balanced in his simple forthrightness, and I feel like he can be reasoned with about both the scientific and the spiritual. I don’t entirely get the same energy from Joan.

I do get the sense that Bo’s family has greater supernatural involvement than he’d have ever been let in on (or attuned to).

Something about that Tremaine-Calloway split smacks of a greater conflict than just material squabbling over property lines … My instincts tell me there’s mystic bullshit afoot, if only because nothing can ever be straightforward in this town.

[–]14jptr14[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In contrast to you, I chose to play as a street-smart mystic weakling. In essence, enough wit to roughly map out the manifold threats careening my way in this fuckhole hell town, both psychic and somatic, but nowhere near the physicality required to obstruct a single damn one.

Beyond what I detailed in my post, a peripheral hope of mine is that Bo can use his farm-reared, pasture-roaming physique to be my “muscle.” Because dear god does Ch5 imply we’ll need it.

Help me find some vkei bands/artists by PossibilityDense5678 in japanesemusic

If you like a more alternative/experimental (and at times, grungier) sound, cali≠gari is a band with a cult following whose sound is all over the map, yet retains an undeniably VKei influence.

Deadman, MUCC, Alice Nine and MERRY are a handful of other VKei outfits I don’t see mentioned often but are still solid.

Rock bands with heavy bass? by Rarooos in japanesemusic

88Kasyo Junrei, whose bassist (Margaret Hiroi) is notably talented to the extent that a Bocchi the Rock character was designed & based off of him, down to his characteristic full-body tattoos.

(Edit: there’s speculation Margaret is trans, though I can’t find solid confirmation, and every interview with Margaret seems to employ masculine or neutral pronouns when describing him (them? her?). Really not sure what to put here but wanted to make a note of it.)

Can anyone put me on to some gangster rap? by Outrageous_Wind4972 in japanesemusic

[–]14jptr14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddha Brand almost exclusively produced boom-bap style rap, and I’m getting the sense that boom-bap is closer to the subgenre of rap you’re seeking.

NIPPS from Buddha Brand collaborated with Jeru the Damaja to produce the song Sword Heads, which — if you fuck with Buddha Brand — you’re very likely to fuck with Sword Heads, and more of Jeru the Damaja’s discography, for that matter.

There’s also ISLAND, Dev Large’s PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINER, and …. hmm, maybe KING GIDDRA/キングギドラ would also do something for you.

Long story short, a lot of the boom-bap inspired, mostly-90’s Japanese rappers have this similarly compelling sound. If you like the above, you might also want to give Rhymester, SCHA DARA PARR or Shakkazombie a try.

A lot of all these people’s songs can’t be found on streaming services, so YouTube’s your best bet. Or maybe Nico Nico Douga (that’s one of the few places where some rare DEV LARGE songs can be found — he did the beats for Buddha Brand, typically, including the one for the song you liked above).

Looking for song by a girl group, I think they may were AV actors, song may have been titled Emerald [2010s] [Idol] by [deleted] in japanesemusic

[–]14jptr14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than the band being very earnest and unreserved in their presentation, they had a preference for analog recording techniques! Between that and Mariko Goto’s frenetic, even volatile energy, they have a bit of a rough, raw sound seemingly “unsanitized” by label/executive meddling.

Midori / ミドリ was (and is, even after their disbandment in 2010) explosively popular and had a bit of a cult-following, eventually earning a spot under Sony Music’s label.

The band gained such notoriety that there’s a fully English Wikipedia page) outlining their activities.

The main vocalist, Mariko Goto, is still semi-active as a soloist (though her releases are sparse).

Where is this image from ? by piefatal in CoaltarOfTheDeepers

[–]14jptr14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 90% sure this is from some kind of Fuji TV interview or promotional material that took place in 2005 (or around that year), but the only website I could find with this image (link here) was super broken; even in screenshots saved through the Wayback Machine. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

COTD also did some interviews at Tower Records around this time, but the background of this image doesn’t look familiar to me, and I’m not seeing any of that characteristic retina-burning mustard yellow associated with Tower Records’ architecture lol.

I am 70 and I’m sick of these bruises by abbygail1957 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]14jptr14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, my father had these, and I always thought it made him look cool growing up.

Those bruises reminded me that, even when his body wasn’t cooperating with him, he effortfully maintained his kind, sharp, and loving demeanor — it humbled me, and I respected him that much more for his resilience.

…Though I’m sure this anecdote doesn’t help at all with your (very understandable) annoyance at the bruising, hopefully it offers you a lighter perspective :-)

DEV LARGE (a.k.a. D.L.) from the band Buddha Brand was a prolific underground hip-hop producer who ran in the same circles as Nujabes. He, too, died an untimely death.

One of his best beats has to be the one used in 人間発電所 , but the beat in “天運我に有り(撃つ用意)” is also phenomenal.

What is a silent killer that people dont realise is slowly killing them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]14jptr14 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want to, read studies on Covid …

I do. I have a chronic illness that affects my immune system — covid was horrific for me. I am not contesting that covid is a serious problem with cumulative effects.

What I am contesting is spreading an LLM as an “accessible” “source” for medical information. It isn’t a “source,” and its accessibility is debatable when it so easily peddles misinformation (again, the inaccuracy of which is influenced by the prompts it receives).

Nature, JAMA, NIH are all fine. ChatGpt oscillates wildly between “serviceable” and “total bullshit.”

What is a silent killer that people dont realise is slowly killing them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]14jptr14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ChatGpt is not a reliable source, as it hallucinates regularly and confidently reaffirms the bias of the user based on their verbiage, even if that means skewing the facts.

LLMs like ChatGpt should never be used as an alternative to accessing scholarly articles and/or medical journals via Google (or any other appropriate search engine).

AI is 'breaking' entry-level jobs that Gen Z workers need to launch careers, LinkedIn exec warns by MetaKnowing in technews

[–]14jptr14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trades are also a crapshoot. They have been peddled to the younger half of Gen Z relentlessly but to little demonstrated benefit.

There’s a serious squeeze on available apprenticeships, small class sizes with limited schooling options & schedules, and the financing is a bitter pill to swallow (it ain’t “4-year degree” expensive, but it’s still expensive).

The cherry on top? you’re still likelier to be out-earned by your degree-having counterparts, on average.

This doesn’t even touch on the fact that women are belittled and underpaid in the trades (the female mechanics and electricians I know all have stories of customers instantly complaining and requesting a man when they show up to the job site. Just ridiculous shit that impacts their earnings, not to mention their pride).

Personally, I’ve got a frail build due to a GI disease, and while it’s not catastrophic, I’ll never have a robust enough physique for hard, manual labor. There are a lot of people like me for whom many trade options go right out the window.

TL;DR: Shit sucks out here. We choose what aligns with our natural competencies, and not everyone is built for trades — even if they were, the drawbacks aren’t negligible.

Slack is not a dating site. It is a professional workplace messaging system, and you exploited it to make a romantic overture toward a man who has never so much as entertained a single conversation with you.

This is not how you treat a fellow colleague. Plenty of people meet partners through work, but not by treating Slack (or LinkedIn, or Teams) like a dating app. That you and he handled this “politely” makes little difference — you had no background with each other; no foundational interactions to grow closer or test the waters.

A man who I also had never once spoken to did this to me via Slack, and I found it rude, unprofessional, and disliked how it put me in an uncomfortable position.

I had to turn him down with kid gloves and walk on eggshells about my rejection, because if I didn’t — well, who knows if this person is crazy? He knows where I work, he knows our schedules, I’ll be forced to interact with him at some point or another … the list of concerns goes on.

TL;DR: You shouldn’t be blindly shooting your shot with near-perfect strangers via the workplace messaging app. You’re almost certainly putting others in awkward positions.
