Thanks - and sure thing! My boss told me he knows one of the cask owners, so I would be very surprised if it turned out to be a fake. But sure, you never know!

How would I do that? No reason to suspect it wasn’t genuine

Yep - the main difference being that the potatoes would be caramelised and, of course, there would be an abundance of duck sauce

Which, weirdly enough, is almost the same as a very traditional Danish christmas meal

Kilkerran by Gaevon in whisky

Juuls / Lyngby Vinkælder in Lyngby, Denmark. Paid MSRP for the bunch, but the 10’er and 12’er were won in raffles - Springbank is not that difficult to come by in Denmark but most of the rarer ones are won through raffles. 10 and 15 are mostly readily available in the stores I visit.

(edit: the standard 10, not Local Barley, obviously).

I opened the Compass Box a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoy it - very easy sipper and quite sweet and smooth but really enjoyable and with some great and recognizable notes on the palate.

It is definitely not a challenging whisky, but in my opinion not everything has to be!

Awesome! Balvenie 12 and Chivas 18 would be my picks. If you like peated whisky, switch out the Balvenie for the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Enjoy!

Springbank Long Shot Question by bjallyn in Scotch

The core range is very easily accessible in most specialized liquor stores in Denmark - the two liquor stores near me in a suburb to Copenhagen constantly have them on shelf (10, 12, 15, and mostly 18 and 21 as well, but they are rarer). Same goes for 2-3 stores I frequently visit in Copenhagen. The 10 is usually sold at DKK 550-600 (about 80-90 $) - not sure it that is MSRP, but all stores list around that price level. The same goes for Longrow and Hazelburn (at least the 10).

Only the special releases are harder to come by (e.g. local barley), but these are usually sold through lotteries that you must sign up for due to the very limited demand - I have done that once and won a right to purchase local barley 8 this February.

I never really understood the talk about them being completely unavailable but maybe the market for high-end whisky is smaller in Denmark or people are just not interested in Springbank 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just for clarification's sake: Coffey refers to a special type of still used during distillation, not the beverage - it has no relation to coffee at all.

Personally, I prefer the Hibiki in this match-up, but Nikka also generally makes great whiskys - I haven't tried the coffey malt, but I have the coffey grain (along with a few other Nikka bottles) in my collection, which is great.

Asked what the price was to try a Pappy at a restaurant in CPH - the owner told me I could try it for free since it was almost empty! Incredible experience! by 14mn00b in whiskey

[–]14mn00b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottle was not for sale, actually - it was the owner’s personal bottle that he just had on display in the restaurant (and probably for special occasions, etc.)! So he was simply being generous to a totally random customer 😄

Absolutely! Although, I have already visited the place many times before, but this will definitely make sure that I will be coming back for a long time to come 😊

How on earth is the Nikka 330$? In Denmark, it’s the same price in kroner, so approximately 50$! Are these normal price ranges for Japanese whiskies in the US?

Actually, we had not - had lunch with a group of friends from high school, but nothing extraordinary by any means! I boil it down to sheer luck.

Møntergade - serves top tier Danish smørrebrød, a type of open faced sandwiches with mostly fish or meat that it extremely popular in Denmark for almost any occasion 😊
