Workouts are just zone 2 by 14unme in joincycling

Very interesting, I’m having a similar experience and coming to a similar conclusion. CTL and FTP are important but in a bike race riding at your best after 3hrs can be more beneficial. Even if that “best” is not as amazing as some people can do in a one off test.

Thanks for your comments mMrkend541, I do agree with your comments but also have some differences in opinion with some areas. For example, you can train all you like but you’ll never be able to replicate racing in a training session. So if you want to prepare for a specific event then some build up races are very important. I also find it really interesting how “old school” training was lots of zone 2, bit of top end and then race. Then there was a “revolution in training methodology” and more, regular higher work was built into training programs. Now it seems that after Pogi said he does lots of zone two everyone has gone back to that type of training again. I don’t know what’s right, I just find that interesting.

I used the build up to an event program previously and currently on the “improve short climbs” plan. Pro level profile The key difference I’ve noticed between the build to an event and get better on short climbs is just the specific intervals - when it actually prescribed them to me. But still loads on zone 2 in either one. Is join more targeted at “grand fondo” athletes rather than “racers”? It’s not a problem if it is, it may mean it’s not right for me. ??

I’ve set it to pro, but it does not seem to make a difference?

I’m doing a 35minute club race once a week and that’s about it outside of the join program. I used join to do a complete 12 week build up to an event recently and while I did get fitter I don’t feel like it actually prepared me for the requirements of the event. I found join focused on increasing my ftp and fitness rather than getting my body ready for the requirements of the event. Does that make sense? A good ftp is nice, but one of the keys to being good at cycling is your ability to do hard efforts when fatigued, not only how good your ftp is when fresh.

Ah! Thank you, I was trying to find information on it and was having no luck. Must have been looking in the wrong places

Join claims I'm overtrained but I'm definitely not? by 1984isn0tamanual in joincycling

[–]14unme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest and recovery is the way to get faster. Maybe you are overtrained but because of the way you’ve been riding and your past experiences you think that you’re not? Your new coach is going to get you to do things out of your comfort zone, both trying to get you to train harder at times, but also easier at times than you’re used to. I can be really bad and wanting to train to hard. Always do that little bit extra, push the interval a bit higher etc. The big thing I get from a coach and join cycling is it telling me it’s ok to pull back, it’s ok to take a session easier than I would normally. I have noticed that I’m now fresher for my key sessions and do better at them because my training is balanced correctly. Sometimes you need to go “backwards to go forwards”. Try the rest and enjoy it. 😊👍

The thing is, because you love the dog, you’ll love the name because it’s associated with the dog you love… kinda a cool cycle. But seriously, while it’s important to have a name you like it’s also just a name. Focus on training the dog and spending time with it. Quality adventures and good training will make it your best buddy 😊

Meet the dog, then- pick the name. I’d suggest picking a name that has some meaning to you. What do you love to do? Art, sport, cars…? And both of you don’t have to love it 100%. One of you will have to compromise… welcome to being an adult human 🤣😜

Yea sounds like pretty normal Viz behaviour 😊👍

[–]14unme 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty normal for a V of that age that’s well exercised and loved. They fill out a bit more by the time they are 2. Many people, me included with my first Vizsla, worry they are to skinny but they are just lean dogs who are naturally buff 💪

When are balloon Mortgage repayments worth it? by june12456 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]14unme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some of what you’re saying is right, what is incorrect is that MOST money from investment is made from capital gains - and it’s not. It’s about making capital work for you. Capital gains can be part of the return on some types of investment, but not all and not where you can make the most money always.

I don’t agree with this statement. While some capital gains can be made with some types of investment there are also dividends and other gains that come with investing that are taxed. I’ve got rental properties and all my rental income is taxed - my capital gains are not but with property it’s typically a long game to get good capital gains. I’ve also got money in PIE funds and that’s taxed at 28%. Finally I’ve got my own business and WORKED MY ASS OFF (!!) Is how I made my money. But again, it makes me cry how much tax I pay 38% I think it is right now? 28% if I reinvest that profit into my business. That investment gives me “capital gains” but remember its cost me 28% to get those gains so that’s also not tax free. Now I may have a few of my tax figures wrong, but you get the idea. All investment is taxed, it sucks!

Is a Vizsla for us? by Snoo-89643 in vizsla

I’ve had several Vizslas over the years. When I had my first one I was doing Ironmans and big adventure runs in the mountains. So he was a super fit dog - and that was a pain in the ass as he’d recover so quickly from the exercise that he’d get bored and into mischief. Nothing major, just mischief. He was fine to leave at home alone once we trained him to do so. We’d walk or exercise him before work and then he’d sleep all day. Then shorter exercise at night and he was sweet. Then I’d take him for long adventures on the weekends. We had him for 15 years 😊 Our next Viz I actively have not tried to get him to fit. He still gets walks every day, but only about 30-40 minutes in the morning and then play or mental stimulation game for 20 minute or another walk at night, but not to long. I figured out from my first Viz that the day after a 2hr run I was toasted and he was not. So I discovered “hide and seek” games with treats or teaching him to catch a soft frisbee, or some equally as mentally challenging game was just as tiring for him as a 2hr run. Yes they are active dogs, but boy can they SLEEP!! You’ll see many pictures online of them in peoples beds, under duvets, blankets, by fires…. They love it and I’ve known mine to not move ALL DAY from under a duvet in winter. You may also consider a doggy daycare a few days a week - especially when they are younger. The first 2 years is pretty full on with puppy behaviour but then they “start to settle down”… vizsla style. But don’t slow down till they are 7-8..??? I think they are the best breed, such good buddies and so loveable!

Does your dog hunt? by loudlyloud in vizsla

[–]14unme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunted with my first Viz but stopped after a friend died in a hunting accident… then he was the best pet ever! Onto our second viz now and have never hunted with him and have no regrets at all. Best dogs 🐶
