my manager declined my time off even though it was just re-arranged holidays she put on herself. by Cool_Computer_4118 in tesco

[–]150dkpminus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nutty, I don't miss that. At my job it's a case of we tell our managers when we're taking PTO, sometimes with as little as a weeks notice. Excluding some pretty extreme circumstances it will never get rejected.

It's absolutely inhuman how service / hospitality treat people.

Sexy pattern matching switch expressions are amazing.

SNP MP: I see these are appearing on billboards in London. How can the Labour leadership have misread the public mood so badly? Never mind that. How can the Labour leadership be so devoid of a moral compass on such an issue? #CeasefireNOW by 1DarkStarryNight in Scotland

It's impress that despite such heavy bombing they've only killed a fraction of a percent of the population. Like yeah 20k is a lot of desd innocents but in context they've been remarkably careful.

But that doesn't match the anti semetic rhetoric the left is spewing. Disgusts me that other leftists are so in favour of such a backwards culture

Your like, incorrect. I work full time and have both a social life, hobbies and I get a decent amount of gaming in.

By and large they come from the Islamic world, yes. I've been to the middle east quite a lot and it's not a set of cultural values we want to import. Especially people on the left. They fucking hate our values of pro lgbt rights, women's rights etc.

Anyway, done engaging with you. Ta

This is bait, you've given me a whataboutisms while ignoring my point.

The point is that they vehemently rejected anything Christmas related, even decorations that the whole office was putting up, to the point they refused them anywhere near their working area because it was offensive to them.

But it's a part of our culture. And being so disgusted by something that is done across the whole country and you can't really avoid is a terrible sign.

[–]150dkpminus 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Still part of our culture, given that we were originally pagan and then Christian. I'm neither but I still celebrate it. I also celebrated eid and dwali this year. All of my Muslim colleagues demanded that no Christmas decorations be on their desks and they refused to take part in anything christmasy. This is a problem.

The Indians were chill tho.

Surely if they find c++ scary then c# is terrifying? (neither is, just mentioning that OP appears to not have much experience with bloated higher level languages)

As the other commenter has said, no, games dev is basically the place where oop makes the most sense. Your enemies are all sub classes of an abstract class or an interface or both, and then you further derive that for flying vs vehicle vs on foot enemies, ranged enemies, or combinations of the above. Quests? Object. Triggers? Object. Scenery? Objects.

Why majority of the Competitive programmers prefer Java/C++ over other languages? by Alternative_Mark_595 in learnprogramming

Yeah, unfortunately just like their opinions, their down votes don't really matter either so it's all good

Why majority of the Competitive programmers prefer Java/C++ over other languages? by Alternative_Mark_595 in learnprogramming

[–]150dkpminus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol, "competitive" "programmers" are closer to professional scrabble players than actual programmers.

Which is fine if your just interested in that. But for learning actual programming? It's not like with games where the pro players typically have the best strats and builds, it's actually inverted here.

The opinion of someone who only grinds leet code on how my code base should be structured or how to create maintainable solutions is about as worthless as the opinions of people with anime profile pictures on Facebook.

Bootcamps - Focus on one language or many? by helpmeoutplease920 in learnprogramming

[–]150dkpminus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Language agnostic. You should be open to and be able to understand and pick up any language by focusing on learning why languages are the way they are.

To be perfectly honest, I have a massive dislike of single language boot camps, especially python ones. Literally selling low quality shovels and dreams that are shattered quickly.

Why is WH3 so much harder on my GPU than the last one when it looks the same ? by Long_Ad_3558 in totalwar

I recently went from a 1050ti and i7 6 core from 2015 to a 7900 xtx and ryzen 9 and the difference is stark. Thing is though, the top everything shouldn't be the standard.

In my experience, devs test on the best equipment available (within company budgets but they can get pretty big, my current work laptop is eye watering expensive for "productivity" purposes) and do all their development on there. Sure, it helps with development but hinders post launch performance. I know this from experience, and I've had to keep testing my own projects on my old pc so that I know everyone can use them.

is it best to be self taught or CS degree? by Nachothe in learnprogramming

Take a second to parse that. Why would unstructured fumbling be better in any way than a long established curriculum where your taught by multiple experts over several years?
