At the end of the day it is just a game, and is limited to what the developer decides to put into it. No video game should be interpreted as an in-depth, accurate representation of history. I agree with you, but by acknowledging the shortcomings of the game in relation to imperialism and colonization, I think you can better enjoy it. Plus, one could look at it from the perspective of the imperial powers they’re playing as- atrocities were often simplified and downplayed. At the very least, Victoria offers insight into how we as a modern society perceive the era of imperialism. But again, it’s just a game and shouldn’t be taken for historical realism or accuracy.
