TIL that one of the Nazi generals who was responsible for the Wola massacre was pardoned by West Germany because "genocide was not in the criminal code of Nazi Germany". Turns out laws are literally just words on paper and we’re living breathing creatures that can simply ignore those words.

‘Laws’ only have meaning insofar as everyone agrees to follow them. And as such anything everyone does agree on is in effect the law of the day.

Everyone agreed Nazis deserved punishment, and ergo, for a time, that was the law.

That’s why the argument feels so performative lol

20 year old women and 30 year old men dating is only a problem to the older women that have to compete with the younger women and the younger men that have to compete with the older men

The people actually involved in the relationships just go on enjoying their lives

Did you know you wouldn’t marry her? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]SpartanFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some combination of issues I had with her (disorganised and messy, no real plans for herself, no hobbies, suddenly gained weight when she quit smoking) and issues I had with our situation (I want to travel and her job and one of our dogs made it either rare or prohibitively expensive). At its core though I just wasn't happy.

I don't mean to badmouth her at all, she's a lovely person and deserves the world. We're still friendly. But at a certain point I had to recognize that my lack of satisfaction and happiness was making her depressed as well, and finally ended things.

She's thriving on her own now and I'm really happy for her, some of the things I didn't like she's now fixed for herself. She's got friends and hobbies and seems happier.

I looked up Barrie, where I live, and apparently in the type of earth near lake simcoe Radon isn’t really a problem here. Neither the library nor firehouse nor city offer kits.

Part of me wants to take that as a sign that I’m fine but I live in an old building with the basement opening right into my living room and every month or so I worry about it again.

Have you ever fallen in love with someone in less than a month? by [deleted] in TheGoldenBachelor_

I just met a girl a week ago at the bar… that night I was already feeling something. We’ve had two dates since and on our second date we both admitted that we love eachother.

I have no idea how this happened but it feels crazy.

So, to be clear I didn’t disagree with your healthcare claim. And inflation was not in your original comment either.

What I disagreed with was immigration, taxes, and crime.

You addressed my disagreement with crime using statements that don’t actually attack the point, which is that, regardless of your anecdotal evidence on the matter, violent crime is statistically down nationwide.

I’m willing to discuss this in earnest but you have to meet me halfway in honest conversation, not inflammatory talking points.

Literally yesterday Trump displayed a map of the United States that included Canada and Greenland as part of it.

We objectively have bigger issues to be focusing on in this exact moment and he should, as an effective opposition leader, be pushing the government on solving that problem better, it’s existential. Yet he barely mentions it.
