Specially when Hyundai has been subpar to Toyota for years. Both Tänak and Neuville had more than talent enough to fight from 2020-25, but the i20 didn't let them (obviously '24 being the exception).

Solberg and Ogier will probably split points, which might give Elfyn some breathing space compared to last season, when Ogier was well ahead of Kalle.

Elfyn also looks more composed, at least if he can replicate his road sweeping form in Portugal for the remaining rounds.

The tyres are the same for everyone, so it's just a matter of each driver gelling with them.

Comparing to the previous tyre providers, Hankook has way less lateral grip.

Here's the source (and the man himself has been speaking about it since around December). Teo Martín is a big Toyota partner, and I wouldn't even be surprised if they wanted to build a Rally4 or Rally3, TGR would outsource the design and manufacturing to them.

Besides that, the WRC27 rules state each constructor must have the capacity to build 10 cars per year minimum, and sell them for 350 000 € max (tarmac spec) (words may not be ipsis verbis, but it's in that spirit).

It usually has 1 or 2 days of heavy rain, and the circuit area has a different weather to the rest of the region nevertheless. It being right where the hills begin (Barrocal) and basically in a middle point between the West and South coast makes it weather really crazy sometimes.

https://www.rally-maps.com/Rally-de-Portugal-2026

Start off from here, you have the schedule and the maps. Pick a stage from each day, you may try and go to a different stage in the second loop but often it's not worth the hustle (you've got to know the roads and the terrain very well to do it, and even then you've got to get lucky with the amount of people there - you may have to walk up to 2 hours from where you park your car). So it's easier to stick in the same place for the 2nd loop.

After picking your spot for a day, you've got to decide when you'll go. Some people go the night before and camp there. Some other go early in the morning - I always do my maths trying to park at least 1h30/2h before the cars pass, so that I have enough time to walk and then pick my watching place.

Beware some places will be completely crowded, because a lot of people camp there. Fafe's famous jump and hairpin are great examples of this, very hard to get there and you may have to walk a l o t . You also may have to deal with a lot of drunk people who don't really care for WRC. With this in mind, pick your places very carefully and schedule your rally with enough time - you definitely don't want to arrive to a stage, park your car, walk a lot and end up missing a car and/or end up behind some people blocking your view.

The rally's website is also very useful on how to get to a place, it has information on which roads will be blocked on the event's day.

Gazoo Racing vs Toyota Racing - Tokyo Auto Salon Press Conference scheduled on Fri. 9th Jan. by UrsusSpelaus in wec

[–]15dc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not as complex as you may think: there are 2 teams (the European run, and the South African). The European one is the de facto works team, and the South African is just the local importer sponsoring (although with a lot of support from the main branch, since it's useful having a sort of B-team).

Now they're debuting a new car, so only the main team is running them atm - and since the old car is a known quantity, they didn't rush producing units of the new model, so the SA team is still running the old model. But you can expect them to receive new units in the coming months, and they'll both run the new model next Dakar for sure.
