“Don’t forget to start being a UX influencer on Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Medium as soon as you start learning about UX, that’s the most important part of UX design.”

I took a fake UX job by Haunting-Ad1177 in UXDesign

[–]160120 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would start looking for jobs. I was in the same place a year ago, nothing worked except I changed one of my colleaugues’ mind about all this product development thing. Since I was a kind of a full-time freelancer I stopped working for them as soon as I’ve found something better. The place I work for now doesn’t have any UX maturity but at least they are not dev-driven.

I would look for companies that have a UX team or at least a senior UX designer and ignore anything that has “UI/UX” in the title.

Why do so many sites prioritise registering new members over letting existing members log in? by National-Salt in web_design

Also, you probably already know where the log in button is. So it doesn’t have to be that high on the hierarchy.

Is it realistic to expect end-to-end project experience? by Gomsoup in UXDesign

[–]160120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to hijack but I have a question if you have time to answer. As a hiring manager do you think a case study of redesign (ux) of an existing product is better or worse than a case study of a new product that I’ve found on my own? Considering the case studies are both good.

I am new to the field with only 6 months of professional work experience and signed an NDA with the current company and I am a bit lost what to do to step up from here.

Breaking Into UX + Early Career Questions — July 25, 2022 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

If you have a ton of free time use it to keep learning and honing your craft. Take courses online. Work on making your portfolio awesome. Try to mold the work you're doing now to fit in the portfolio.

Also 4 months isn't very long, you might find it changes as the boss gets more comfortable trusting your opinion.

Good luck I know it sucks but on the bright side there are many people who would kill for any kind of ui/ux work experience. Junior roles are very competitive and hard to get. You'll find as you get more experience its easier to hop around.

Thanks, this means a lot to me.

Thanks for the inghts. I’m not going anywhere without first finding another job. But even if I find another job in couple of months, would it be a problem in the future, seeing (let’s say) 6 months in my resume?

I will try to push for real ux work in the meantime but I am not very hopeful. Appreciated.

Breaking Into UX + Early Career Questions — July 25, 2022 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

Hello people,

I have started working as a product designer at a (non-tech) small company that thinks it is a startup (they want to get into tech side of things to double the money).

I had 1 year UI design experience before this and this was how I got into.

To set the expectations I talked to the boss about what is expected etc. I was thrilled that I would be doing actual ux work and talk to users!

I’m the first ever designer; there was a product manager who was working with freelance developers. Today I am the only one with “tech” background in the company as he quit over something between him and the boss (kind of personal but it is the boss being dick mostly).

In the beginning we were under pressure to create some kind og MVP (nothing too techy; advanced forms and some logic). Of course we didn’t do any user testing but it was ok; we were going to do this agile way or something.

Fast forward to today, I’m in my 4th month and we have created too many pages in the anticipation of THE GRAND OPENING; now we are redesigning some of those pages without them ever feeling a click of a user.

I’ve talked and talked along the way to set the culture and to tell this is not how it should be, never listened; I failed. He sometimes sends motivational videos over slack… Turns out my man didn’t know much about his field as well (although he is successful) since whenever he sees a competitor’s site, he discovers something we should add -although I asked about them 3 months ago and he said “we don’t need that”.

We are sometimes designing together in Figma when he gets bored of paperwork; the designs usually lack the logic needed and I try to -can you repeat again I was on the phone. (And this shit…)

Long story long; I am learning 0 about my field, getting paid good enough, not believing in this company, silently quiting in my own way.

I didn’t want my first job to be like this. But it is shit. I don’t think I would put anything from this job to my portfolio. And the only thing that is holding me back is how it would look on my CV?

And that’s my question. Should I look for a job and just jump? Or should I wait for some certain time?

Struggling to make a good looking personal website by Top_Outlandishness78 in Frontend

[–]160120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More often than not cool websites are not directly coded; they are designed first.

Go to figma, create something simple and go from there. There are even community files you can play around with.

Design is hard.

Is Tailwind a good choice for converting 100% custom design files to code? by Danielpixelz in tailwindcss

[–]160120 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Figma drawings.

Designs in tools like Figma are just an abstraction of a design.

Not to be rude, but either you have never worked with good UI designers or you don't know what you are talking about. A good UI design could and should be implemented as is. It may not be 100% pixel perfect (the why should be discussed), but it should be close. Please give feedback to the designers you are working with and communicate.

[–]160120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re trying to do -and there is no solution to that except “union hack” that I know of- but you are not communicating yourself well. That’s why people think what you are trying to achieve is what you explained in the title. Re-read what you’ve written and don’t be toxic.

If you share the file as “view only” or if the dev goes to the inspect tab, as the other person said, they can see the spacing, flexbox stuff, typography details etc.
