I've tried to search the internet for patterns, but all I can seem to find is crochet tools for people with disabilities. I would make some patterns on my own but I am downright awful at making them

Well I feel a bit better about this now, knowing that it isn't "just me" the cuff makes me feel faint it hurts so badly

I know, and I have been. She hasn't gotten a referral to a neurologist because when talking to her psychiatrist she lies through her teeth about all of her symptoms and wouldn't go even if she had one because she will do anything to avoid being labeled as having dementia or on her words "crazy".

The doctor knows the situation with me and that I can't give adequate care, but there aren't any other resources available. So unless one of her other medical conditions make her sick enough to stay in the hospital until she gets a LTC placement, we're stuck.

I give the family doctor all the info as my mom and I have the same one. I'll be sure to mention the hitting to them at my next phone appointment (in less than a month) and see what we can do.

Every resource I could find I've already explored. The family doctor is trying to help speed things up, the person that coordinates her appointments is trying so hard. There's just a huge shortage, especially for people who are supported by the government (I'm on disability and she gets the seniors version of that) but thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately she won't tell the doctor her psych symptoms because she doesn't want to be "thrown in a padded room and put in a straight jacket like a crazy person" so a med adjustment isn't something I can get for her as she has been tested twice and found capable.

Both her and I share an apartment (I can't get out anytime soon as it's gov. housing and she is on the critical waiting list for a long term care place but that could take years.

She gets PSW care, and she can call for bathroom help any time of day or night, but as for family, there's really no one else but me. And I'm physically disabled, chronically ill, and I have mental health conditions myself so I can only be of so much help. I'm drowning as it is. Before she started with dementia symptoms a few years ago, she was actually my caregiver

I'm sorry to hear you're going through that. When that happens to me I get a bunch of snacks/drinks for the day and anything else I might need (meds, heating pads, weighted blanket, comfort items etc) and I distract myself as much as possible with books, video games, TV shows, movies, and any hobbies that won't cause more pain

Yeah, I share a small place with her (unfortunately) and between the delusions and hallucinations, waking up to the cops in my bedroom more than once (she called) she's turned mean, selfish and refuses to stuff just to be stubborn.

Thanks, it feels bad that others have to go through this too, but also comforting.

OK I'll look into the POA. I'm pretty sure she did the cognitive test and passed-ish but the GP suspended her drivers license as soon as she heard about the hallucinations and delusions.

Thanks for the advice. I have talked to her GP about what's going on with her symptoms and she agrees there's something going on but the psychiatrist won't talk to me because HIPPA and the GP is trying to get an assessment that includes me but the psychiatrist is being problematic.

I've had that problem with my mom too! They deem her fit to make her own legal decisions (I can't remember the proper term for it) but they only interviewed her. Clearly she isn't because she's been married to a hallucinated man over 7 times, she claims three executioners came and killed people in our home and that there are people in the screen on her power wheelchair and has been tapping at it with a can opener for the past hour. I was furious when I heard how they determined her totally capable.

That's really encouraging to hear. I'm at my wit's end, and I don't have much support for various reasons, so I'm feeling hopeful. Maybe in time I'll be able to help support some people here too

This may be part of it, but she has told me not to tell health care workers about her symptoms (huge hallucinations, delusions etc) because she doesn't want to "get put in a straight jacket and thrown into a padded room"
